| I live in Rostock (I'm American, hubby is German) and new to Atkins. :wave Ok, so I am posting this question here hoping to get some answers but I am not too sure if I will... here it goes: I am desperately looking for a good carb counter that has german foods and isn't too big to carry around. I have the book "kalorien mundgerecht" and it has an ok carb count on a ton of foods but not the greatest. I really hate German food labels... the majority don't tell you anything. Any suggestions?

| Hi Rehmmasr, not of the top of my head, but I will post your question in my german forum, I'm sure somebody will recommend one. Actually, just writing I thought of one - you can get the Atkins Diet Revolution book in German, that should have a carb counter in there. I'll let you know when I learn more from my group. Cheers, Franziska |

| Hey Franziska, Thanks a lot. I took a look at your site and it's great. Unfortunately I am not that great in writing in German so I probably won't post there. I am too chicken. :geek You have a lot of useful info. Thanks again for your help :wave

| Hello everyone! I just moved to Wiesloch (Heidelberg area) and I am having a hard time finding Lo-Carb stuffs. If anyone has information on where to find stuff, please post. Lo-carb pasta, bread and Atkins bars are what I am looking for the most. Its nice to see people in other countries enjoying Atkins as well. Good Luck to everyone! Hail2queen PS, feel free to email me at allhail2queen@yahoo.de to chat or whatever as well. Take care! :wave |

| Hi Remmahsr, thanks for your praise *blush*. I do hope you will continue to lurk there :yes Hail2queen, thats the problem we have currently in Germany - there are basically no ready lowcarb products. You can checkout the diabetics sections but a lot of these products are sweetened with fructose, so no help for us. The good news are that Germany has about 1000 varieties of sausage, thats something you can enjoy! Also, because there are no lc bread, pasta etc you can buy ready, there is a very creative german lowcarb society, coming up with all kinds of recipes. I would recommend to get a bread machine and create your own lc bread, its really easy and actually I think it tastes better than the stuff you can buy (and I know, I compared the two ;-)) Take care, Franziska |

| Hey Patty, :wave It's nice to see another "german newbie". I too don't feel too great about talking to a doctor about this. Luckily for my Apotheker in my neighborhood speaks perfect english, so he helps me a lot on things like what vitamins I can get that are Atkins Friendly and ideas of where to look for certain foods. He helps me out a lot on the translation of medical terms too. A big help. Glad to see that we are both on the way to a better us. Take Care.

| QUEEN- Are you stationed in Germany or are you a local citizen? If you are on post, the commissary should have tons of low carb products and foods to eat. That is where I get all my low carb foods. Let me know and I will help you out with what is good or not for atkins. Good luck to you!

| Hi Everyone :wave I am an American Expat living in Mannheim. I have been here for 10 years and I am fluent in German (although I do have problems with the Grammatik...lol). I am 3 days into my Atkins Induction and have made some progress. I haven't bought any books on it and have only researched this WOE through the internet (plenty of resources out there!). As far as being able to shop for LC foods on the economy, I usually buy the "Du Darfst" products and read labels (what little is provided :sarcasm ). I also have access to the Commissary on the military bases, so I buy my Atkins Nutritionals there. There is also a great website for Atkins Nutritionals, if you don't have access to the Commissary. You can look under www.Supermass.com and choose "Atkins Nutritionals" from the "Hersteller" list. They have tons of Atkins products, but not all. There is also a button (Low Carb Foods) that you can click that takes you to the page with all low carb products. Your local "DM" also carries a variety of health foods that can aid you in your LC program. There are also various Bio stores that carry certain products that may be useful in LCing. Take Care! |
