Hello to any aussies out there. Just wanted to point out two things that I've found -

Cottee's diet jelly is sweetened with Splenda - well, the rasperry one is anyway, the others were less clear, but it looked like maybe they are repackaging and the rasperry ones are the new packets.

Nando's portuguese chicken chain - fantastic chicken and they have nutritional info cards in store - a quarter chicken with their peri-peri chilli sauce has only 1.2grams of carbs (working from memory here!). That's right, fast food chain that is Atkins friendly - as long as you avoid the chips and sides that is. It is so good.

Other than those two things, low carb products don't seem to cover as wide a range as the US. I have browsed through recipes here and in DANDR and so many of them require bakemix. At $50 (in US dollars!) just for postage, I don't think I'll be shipping that over through the Atkins site!

So, those are my tips and my grumble. I hope the sun is shining wherever you are...

Hello from Sydney
Try this site in Australia for hard to find Low Carb products
www.passthetoast.com
Nandos Chicken is the best! I sometimes have a burger with the works from Hungry Jacks without the bun.
Looking forward to exchanging more info.
Bye for now

Hello from BrisVegas,
I am just two weeks into this gig and its cool to see a couple aussies on the board here! (evn if I am a Yank living in Bris!) Great tip on the Nando's.... always loved them so thanks for the reminder!

Two Problems.

Labels. Book says that you subtract Fibre grams from total Carbs but not in the UK... they don't count fibre as a carb so you don't have to subtract it like in the states. But what about us? More UK or more US?

ICE CREAM!!! This is a serious problem....my wife got a whiz bang Ice cream maker for xmas and is whipping up all sorts.... Now I am about to just start pouring cream and splenda straight into that thing unless I can find a proper low carb recipe....help! Hope to hear from you guys again.

hi fellow aussies, have just been reading the notice board and have been wondering about the bake mix myself, look in the atkins book red white and blue cover on page 372 and it states that the bake mix is'made primarily from soy'so would soy flour be ok then?Since starting atkins some 2 mths ago Ihave discovered just how wheat intolerant i am,now i have no indigestion, that went after 3 days.Ijust love the feeling of being really healthy again after about 5yrs of on going gut problems. enjoy!!!!!

Yay! I've been racking my brain trying to think of a good place to eat out in New Zealand for ages. And we have Nando's here too!! I can't wait to go there and have a meal! Thanks for that.

Hi from melbourne,
A couple of things...GNC (General Nutrition Centres) sell Atkins products, and have a 12 month 'single distributor' agreement (apparently) with the Atkins Centre (although the Atkins Centre currently deny this...)

Its still waaay expensive though - the best way to get Atkins products to Aus, is to put a large order in - the freight is only $40 US REGARDLESS OF QUANTITY or amount of items.

There are also some Aus companies who make some good low carb stuff - Empower Foods (www.empowerfoods.com.au) have a good forum where you can pick up useful recipes (and learn about their products as well) - FibreX is my main breakfast these days - 2.2 Carbograms per serve!!!!

There is also Picture of Health (not sure of their URL though).

Default hello fellow aussies

Started induction yesterday. Today I bought sausages from coles, and now I'm thinking maybe I shouldnt have. Carbs per 100g is 4.2, sugars is less than 1g so the carb must be from the grain filler. The thing is that two sausages is about 150 g so I'm cutting into the carbs I should be getting from salad.

Has anyone else used sausages, and been ok during induction?

Cheers
the voigtstr

If you're buying from Coles, get the Chevaps rather than sausages - much lower in carbs and ok for induction.
