| Hi emzina In our area (Bournemouth) the only places I have seen Atkins products are online and in one 'diabetic' shop BUT even that shop has them on offer because they are out of date. The owner says her customers are just not buying them!! Probably because they are so expensive - over a pound for a bar no bigger than a 2-finger kitkat!! But they are really not the best thing to spend your money on evenif you can find/afford them!! If you do decide to buy any of those 'lowcarb' products make sure from the list of ingredients that everything on that list is also on the list of allowed foods for induction. As far as I know NONE of the bars are induction-legal as they usually contain wheat flour, soy flour, nuts, fruit, starches etc which are NOT induction food items - NO MATTER what it says on the packet. So if at all utilised they should be saved until you have reached the OWL level/rung that allows ALL the foods in the bar. That was the bad news . . . . . . now for the good news! . . . . . you dont need to buy them to do a satisfying induction!! I stayed on induction strictly for a year and a half without tasting one 'lowcarb' product. Just look at the induction list and you will see a vast list of tasty and nutritious foods to choose from. Visit the cooking and food forums and the recipe database (link at the top of the page) and discover what you can do with the allowed foods. It is a good idea to refrain from sweet 'treats' in your first 14-days on induction, as this will help you kill your sugar monster and you will in time not even want desserts or sweets. Sounds unlikely I know - but this is coming from someone who 30 months ago could not resist eating a 500 gram bar of Cadburys chocolate if there was one in the house! At Christmas time we would buy several wholesale packs of ferero rocher chocs so that we had a few left to give as presents. I even remember unwrapping wrapped christmas gift boxes of chocs to eat and having to go out and buy new ones to replace my family's presents!! How gross is that?!?! Now I can eat one square of a good quality chocolate bar and put the rest away for several weeks without thinking of having another piece. Many of us non-USA Atkineers are delighted the Atkins and other 'lowcarb' products are not readily available to us as it makes us choose, prepare and eat fresh non-processed foods.

| hmmm atkins products... have seen the bake mix on sale in a few Holland and Barratts, boots do a very limited selection of atkins shakes and bars but I wouldn't bother spending your money on them if you can resist it. Superdrug stocks a few carbolite products, 'bacon clusters' and a few bars (at a very high price). Low carb rolos are there but are on their way out - are being sold off very cheap. Asda do sugar free sweeties which I wouldn't advise either as they can be addictive!! As Elizellen said, best to beat the sweet addiction in the early stages! |
