Quake/Tsunami in SE Asia

Hi! I'm in the North of Thailand but the south is suffering terribly. We heard from our friends in the south though, they were on a dive boat, and the boat is fine, the pier is destroyed. The King's grandson was jet-skiing and he is confirmed dead. My co-worker in Gaulle, Sri Lanka is fine. They have taken in a family that lost their home and their 2-month old baby. If you can help by donating to the Red Cross, please do so.

This is the biggest disaster in our lifetime and I pulled this off the web in case anyone would like to donate. Please remember, there are a lot of bogus charities that are going to try to take advantage, so please before you give any money, check out the charity with www.usaid.gov. They list the good ones.

The same message about giving money was on the USAID site said the same thing

The most effective way people can assist relief efforts is by making cash contributions to humanitarian organizations that are conducting relief operations.

USAID encourages cash donations because they: allow aid professionals to procure the exact items needed (often in the affected region); reduce the burden on scarce resources (such as transportation routes, staff time, warehouse space, etc); can be transferred very quickly and without transportation costs; support the economy of the disaster-stricken region; ensure culturally, dietary, and environmentally appropriate assistance.
