Default Carb Options Ice Cream - A Rocky Road Review

I bought the Carb Options Rocky Road Ice Cream a few days ago just to see if it was any good. Yes, it is good! Tastes like the real thing, sweetened with Splenda (and Sugar Alchohols). For those who are intolerant to sugar alchohols, don't get it, but I'm one of the "lucky" few who isn't affected by them. Great taste though.

absolutly yummy. Hubby is a huge ice cream freak so we are always trying diffrent ones. I usually just taste test a few, rocky road is my fav from carb smart line with pecan right behind it. I could do w/o the mint and chip, it was kinda weird texture :sadblinky

weird texture? maybe it was the carton... I know the 1st carbsmart icecream I got had that old semi-crystalized texture to it that icecream gets when it's been melted & re-frozen...

tried the 0 netcarb varieties recently, not too bad, but I think I'll stick with the slightly higher carb varieties, I never cared for ice milk & that's what they remind me of...

wish they'd make a neapolitan of the 4carb per serving kind ensive

I absolutely LOVE the Blue Bunny Carb Freedom Frozen Almond bars. They are so awesome. 2 Net Carbs per bar and only 6g Sugar Alcohol. :yummy

Beware, those Almond bars contain trans Fats, I used to eat them too. :yikes

As far as the mint and chip thing goes, The chocolate chips in it is what I found a bit odd. They tasted like *tries to think of that chocolate alternative* cherub chips or something? Mint and chip was always my favorite so I think I was just expecting too much from a low carb version. It is still a very good flavor, and the minty taste is quiet refreshing. I ate the mint, and my 2 year old ate the chips so It all worked out well LOL. Thought you might enjoy the following news...

Breyers launches zero net carb ice cream

June 2 - New Product

Breyers today introduced what it calls the first zero net carb ice cream. The new Breyers CarbSmart ice cream with 0 grams of net carbs per serving will be launched in two flavors: Vanilla & Chocolate (vanilla ice cream & chocolate sorbet) and Neapolitan (vanilla ice cream with chocolate & strawberry sorbets). The sugar-free ice cream portion of both flavors contains 130 calories per half-cup serving, while the sorbet contains 70 calories per half-cup serving.

In related news, CarbSmart and Creamsicle have teamed up to introduce two of the most popular cream pop flavors -- Orange and Mixed Berry -- in zero net carb versions. A single bar (1.75-fluid-ounce) contains 20 calories and 0 grams of net carbs.

All three new CarbSmart products began shipping to supermarkets in mid-May. The suggested retail price for a 56-ounce container of Breyers CarbSmart is $5.09. A 10-pack of CarbSmart Creamsicle bars sell for $3.99.

Thanks for the info Sashie.

Question: Is trans fat the same as saturated fat? If it is, the almond bars contain 9g saturated fat.

I dont think that is a good thing :sadblinky .

FDA Aligns With Atkins On Trans Fats
http://atkins.com/Archive/2003/7/14-379496.html

Quote:
Fat Grams

The fat and cholesterol counts for the food are next on the list. Usually indented below the total fat count is the amount of saturated fat; if the food is a good source of monounsaturated fat, that amount is listed as well. Here’s where the Nutrition Facts label can be more than a little misleading. On labels that are printed in color, for instance, the fat information is in yellow, meaning you should restrict your intake. That’s based on the very misleading idea that all fats are bad, even though saturated fats aren’t bad and monounsaturated fats are good. More importantly, the amount of trans fats, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, in the food isn’t listed on the label at all even though the food might well contain a lot of it. Because trans fats are by far the only fats you should avoid, new federal regulations will require manufacturers to list them on the label. The new regulations won’t go into effect until 2006, and it could take more than a year from then before every label carries the information.

How can you avoid foods with trans fats in the meantime? Look for the words “hydrogenated” or “partially hydrogenated vegetable oil” in the ingredients list. If one of them is there, you can estimate the approximate amount by subtracting the saturated fat amount (and any other fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated listed on the label) from the total fat amount. The difference is the approximate amount of trans fats.

Thanks for the info on those Almond Bars, I was going to pick those up next time I went shopping. The Klondike Carb Smart Ice cream sandwiches also contain trans fats.
