| If it is the same one I saw. It was made with sugar alcohols (malitol I think). If SA don't disagree with you, you could try it.

| Hope this helps! Ingredients: water, strawberries, polydextrose, maltodextrin, fruit pectin, locust bean gum, citric acid, aspartame, natural flavor, potassium sorbate (perservative) calcium chloride, red 40 It's sweetened with Nutra Sweet. 5 carbs in one Tb. I use it but sparingly and only on days when I'm not eating too much from being too busy or stressed out...etc... One little jar lasts me at least a month and a half. But I will say I found it to be very good! Those that get sweets cravings though might want to steer clear of it because I find it to be quite sweet and it might be a trigger for some.

| http://www.wholefoods.com/healthinfo/polydextrose.html for polydextrose http://food.oregonstate.edu/ref/carb...malto_adm.html for maltodextrin I'm thinking it might be a good idea just to buy strawberries and mush up a couple in place of jam and give the rest of the strawberries to the kids. Weird stuff they put in our food.

| Hmmm, I have to admit I don't understand 1/2 of that but at least I think its not sugar anyway. :confused I've never liked jams or jellies so I don't have to worry about it though thank goodness!

| Thank you all for your replies! I went ahead and bought some it was on sale 2 for 5 it is good for a treat and there are a couple of recipes that I would like to try with the apricot preserves. one recipe calls for the preserves, dijon mustard and onion soup mix and the other one is a sweet and sour meatball recipe with the apricot preserves as a sauce not all of the ingredients in these recipes are atkins friendly but I think I can find some suitable replacements for them heck some of the best recipes are born from experimentation. |

Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate - that acts like one in the body. Period. No net carbs/undigested carbs/unmetabolized carbs here. If you eat too many maltodextrin carbs it will knock you out of ketosis. Guaranteed. It also has a fairly high glycemic value, which, if consumed in large quantities could cause a blood sugar spike/cravings. Polydextrose, from the studies I've seen, has a glycemic value of 0. I could be wrong on this, but everything I've seen points towards polydextrose acting like fiber in the body. So, to sum everything up. Maltodextrin bad, polydextrose, good |

I just bought a fiber supplement that you mix with water like metamucil and the ingredient is maltodextrin it says it has 6 grams of carbs and 5.6 grams of fiber so given what you've said above does that mean I shouldn't take it?? :confused |

Here's a recipe I found on the net. Susbstitute the sugar with splenda. 3 cups strawberries, picked 3 cups sugar 1/4 cup water Boil sugar and water. When boiling, pour in the strawberries. Let simmer for about 5 minutes. Pour into sterilized jars and seal. Put covers on the jars and adjust the clamps. Do not wipe the syrup from the tops or rubber rings before sealing. Bacteria may be introduced by wiping. Place the sealed jars back in the wash boiler, cover with hot water to 6 to 8 inches above the tops of the jars, bring to boiling point and let boil for 20 minutes for pint size jars and 30 minutes for quart size jars. The jars must be filled full.
