Default Erythritol

I'm interested in replacing Splenda with Erythritol, as I heard it's "safer". HOwever, when I went to purchase it, although it toots itself a slow carb, it say in the nutritional info that it has 15g of carbs per tbs. That seems very high with no fiber to deduct. Anyone have any comments on this? Thanks

I know it's a sugar alcohol, but it's one that's not suppose to have side effects. So I'm still curious about the carb count. thanks

I've bought Erythritol before and tried it in a few recipes. The first thing I noticed is that it has what can been described as a "cooling effect" on your tongue. It also had a slight aftertaste (and slightly salty too) in my opinion. Since it's a sugar alcohol, some people consider the 15 grams of carbohydrates as "0 Net Carbs". Most agree that the best use of Erythritol is when used in combination with other sugar substitutes and not by itself, therefore synergistically working together for a better sweet taste.
For example: ChocoPerfection chocolate bars have Erythritol and Oligofructose as their sweetener combo. With 2 Net carbs and no sugar alcohol gastrointestinal distress (unlike Maltitiol, lactitol, etc), they are the best tasting (but most expensive) sugar-free chocolate bars I've ever had. You can order them from www.lowcarbspecialties.com or even cheaper at www.netrition.com .

I use Erythritol along with my liquid Splenda in everything sweet and it's wonderful. It's not good alone, though. And yes, it's 0 carbs and won't give you tummy distress. The trick is to figure out what proportions to use along with another sweetener.

This is a thread that I have been "digesting". [edited as per tos by jimmie 48]

This message board has some great amateur researchers. But their actual diet support is poor. I am using for diet support and LC friends for research on recipes.

Now I lay me down to sleep; A cup of Splenda at my feet!
I'll be good and drink my water--Leave the grape juice for my daughter.
I promise to eat all my eggs, So take these bulges from my legs!
I'll eat my pork--I'll eat a steer--Just smooth these bumps off of my rear!
I'll never even look at jelly,Please take the blub out of my belly.
These lips will never taste a sweet, (Oh if I could only see my feet!)
So, please, tonite before I wake,
A few more pounds--Whoosh Fairy--take!
