Default Finally...the answer to the Diet Rite questions

O.k. guys, since I love Diet Rite so much and it's made with Splenda, I decided to do some research. I emailed them several times to ask how much splenda is in a can and no one replied. So finally, I decided to call them and ask. They said they couldn't release the exact formula ofcourse. I insisted that I just had to know at least how many servings of Splenda I was having since this could stall my weight loss or help in my success.

Anyway, she finally told me that each can has the equivalent to 40 grams of sugar. So I looked at the usage guide on my Splenda baking bag and it says that 50 grams of sugar = 3 tablespoons of Splenda. So my estimate is that each can has about 3 little packets of splenda, which is our maximum daily allowance.

So if we're drinking one can of Diet Rite a day. This is totally fine as long as you are not resistant to sweetners. Hope this helps!

Am I the only one who likes Diet Rite? Was anyone else wondering about this? Hmmmm

Default Re: Finally...the answer to the Diet Rite questions

There have been a couple threads on this that got pretty darn heated, in my opinion.

From these threads, the majority on this board believe in counting each serving (whether that be 6 oz or 12 oz, depending on the soda) as 1 of your 3 daily artificial sweetener allotments allowed per 2002 DANDR's rules of induction. So if you drink a soda that says a 12 oz can is one serving, 3 cans could be consumed per day if you took in no additional artificial sweeteners.

Your information is not quite correct because soda companies using sucralose ("Splenda") are using liquid sucralose in their formulations. Only the packets and bulk (granular) Splenda have carbohydrate counts because of the carrier/fluffer maltodextrin. As such, technically there is no carbohydrate associated with the liquid sucralose for one to count. This is why the liquid sucralose ("Splenda") sweetened diet soda will say "0 carbohydrate".

Since I always encourage independent thinking, make your decision based on the information and your individual response to diet soft drinks.

I agree, pay attention to your body's response. Some can have diet sodas all day long and not have worries and others can only have one can a day. Others can have caffeine and some can't.
