Default R&D Diet Cookie

I'm always looking for foods I can eat and yet stay in ketosis. My wife is on one of those cookie diets (she's on the R and D Diet Cookie program). She wanted me to try them but I need more quantity and I have always had good success on Atkins. Anyway...
I wanted to let you know that after losing about 15 lbs on the Atkins diet my scale seemed to get stuck. I noticed my wife's R&D Diet cookies were low in carbs so I started eating 2 or 3 each day. I was suprised I was able to stay in ketosis! Each day I ate a regular large Atkins breakfast (scrambled eggs and cheese and sometimes bacon). I would then eat 2 or 3 R&D Diet Cookies during the day and ended up with a normal Atkins supper. The cookies were really good (compared to not being allowed cookies) and helped me lower my overall calorie intake. The weight started coming off right away and I lost another 10 lbs! Make sure you order the R&D Diet Cookies because I noticed some of the others contain sugar and that will probably knock you out of ketosis. Also, I have not yet had more than 3 in a day so I don't know how many you could eat without going out of ketosis.

Glad you found something that works for you, Sam. There are many low carb plans out there and everyone is free to choose something they can follow and something they believe is healthy.

That being said, on Atkins one should eat primarily natural, minimally processed foods. These cookies also contain grains, so they are not allowed before one reaches OWL Rung 9, regardless of the amount of carbohydrates per cookie.

Enjoy your low carb plan, even if it's not Atkins.

Right you are Georgiana! I stand admonished and corrected. I was trying to be helpful. I thought the idea was to successfully lose weight... not to stay rigid to a program.
I will take my success story elsewhere.

Sam, as I wrote in my previous post, there are many low carb plans out there. Some of these plans are excellent for losing weight, maintaining goal, preventing health problems and improving health. Others do not incorporate one or more of these principles (see Kimkins for a very good example).

The Atkins Diet, like any dietary plan, follows a set of rules. These rules may be more or less strict than the ones describing other low carb plans. However it is these rules that help many Atkinseers achieve their weight loss and health goals. If someone finds it difficult to stick to the rules of Atkins and make this way of eating a lifetime change, they should look for other plans (low carb or not) that better fit their needs.

I did not bash your methods of losing weight. However, since your post was made on the Atkins Diet Bulletin Board, it should be clear that the members of this board are following Atkins (DANDR 2002, to be more precise). Therefore it should not surprise anyone that the advice given and the replies made here will only be pertinent to the Atkins Diet and not to other low carb plans.

I hope your advice and story will help other dieters reach their goals on the plan they are following.

I would just like to comment that any type of cookie if its low carb or anything else once I start eating them then I know my taste buds will want carbs so I would rather stay away but if you have the willpower not to overeat them and the diets working for you thats great keep going.
