In a no-nonsense approach to weight loss, the American Heart Association’s new diet book offers options for the weak. Can’t give up pizza? Try eating two slices instead of your regular three. Craving ice cream? Try a sorbet.
Here's their brilliant strategy: EAT LESS! :icondance

Jeeze why didn't we all think of that?? :confused

I guess order the 6-piece McNugget instead of 9...hey I get it!! :icondance

Dudes let's all quit Atkins! Just order less food!!! :joy

Hi Iap, :wave :wave :wave :wave :wave
Your right, I just can't believe American Heart and the ADA still refuse to see the light when it comes to sugar and carbs.

Congrats on climbing Mt Rainier. Isn't August a little late in the summer? My DH tried to convince me to climb Mt Fuji with them next month, but I declined as 3 flights of stairs is about my limit.....
Anxious to hear how the climb went. Ill be thinking about you

If one more person says "everything in moderation" I think I'll puke! It's like the mantra of those that don't want to give up anything. Before I got back on Atkins recently I was trying to just control myself with smaller portions. I was unsatisfied AND gained weight because I would crazy and have something bad after a day of "moderation".

Please don't be so quick to judge eating in moderation. It may not work in the 'losing' phases of Atkins but it sure works in the 'maintenance' phase.

But Perry, everytime I've heard it the subject has been a food that is full of sugar, or a bag of potato chips. It's always someone saying it so they can eat whatever they want (or trying to get me to do it!). I think moderation means something so different to an Atkid than it does to the general public. To me moderation is controlling the portions of the rungs I move up to. To me that's easy and healthy!

but guys, without realising it, you ARE eating in "moderation" - I mean that's what Dr A means by "eating till satisfied" and teaching you during Induction to eat only 3-4oz cheese, 1-2 tablespoon sourcream etc

You may not see that it's in moderation but I bet you as you go through OWL - you are eating "moderately" all the foods as you go through the rungs.

In that context, you are right (and so is tickle). I didn't understand what you meant by 'everything in moderation' when I first read your post.

Yep Perry, it's always been funny in the context of when it's been said to me. Either it was an overweight person unwilling to give up all the total junk they're eating, or a skinny person with the metabolism of a humming bird that really can eat everything. My problem is that trying to be moderate in certain foods (chip, crackers, ice cream, etc) will trigger my bad carb lust!
