Default Gallstones and Kidney Failure

Okay, I have a friend who is a nurse and a lawyer who is always on my case for this WOE and is always trying to scare me off the program. I have been faithful to induction for 7 weeks now and have lost 32 lbs. I am very proud of my accomplishment (33 y.o. female, 5'8", SW 324/CW 292/GW 150'ish). Anyway, today he tells me that if I keep up this WOE I'm going to get gallstones and have kidney failure.

Help me not be so scared everytime he tells me this stuff!!

Thanks tons, CLYDER

Ask your friend to approach the bench.

Then slap him.

OK, well that works in theory. Ask him for the scientific evidence.

There is none.

You won.

Case closed.

Next case, please.

And what do judges wear under their dresses anyway?

Agree with Cleo, ask Mr. JD-RN to provide for you cases from medical journals that show a direct correlation between Atkins and gallstones/kidney failure. Make sure you specify Atkins and not a "high protein diet" (which Atkins isn't by the way.)

Clyder - your friend needs to do some real reading instead of listening to his friend's step-sister's cousin's mechanic's aunt's dentist's nephew twice removed account of something that was "never documented medically, but that's what happened!".

High protein and high fat diets do NOT cause kidney disease or gallstones.

It is, however, true that if you have kidney disease a high protein diet can complicate the issue. Horses of two entirely different colors.

And I'm with Cleo- Slap 'em. LOL

and even if Atkins was a high protein diet as high protein is a relative term there was a large study done trying to prove just that that failed to should high protein consumption in healthy kidney folks caused any damage. you have to already have damaged kidneys for ther high protein diet to further damage them.

Gall stones are actually formed when the diet is low in fat and the bile salts get to sit around and crystalize. High fat diets keep them moving so they can't make stones. However if you already got stones eating high fat will move those stones on a regular bases and that can cause them to block the ducts which is what gall bladder pain is.

Yep tell your Lawyer friend that hear say evidence isn't acceptable and you want direct from the med labs testing results proving his info.

I just had bloodwork done. I don't recall what the official name of the test that showed kidney function was, but she specifically pointed it out and said "This says your kidneys are functioning BETTER than most peoples"

The rest of the bloodwork rocked too. So hey, it hasn't done me any harm yet LOL

Um, yah, well, my mom was on a low fat diet for 5 years and then developed gall stones.

And my neighbor went into kidney failure because he has diabetes and he insisted on eating a high carb diet.

Also, I know a ton of people in history who have DIED. And they ate all kinds of stuff, hi carb, low carb, high protein, low protein, high fat, low fat. OMG. Maybe it's food that causes death?

Last I checked, it's the dying that kills 'em every time.

Someone ought to do a study about that.

Common causes of kidney disease
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK),
http://www.nkdep.nih.gov/patients/kidney_disease_information.htm

  • Diabetes: In diabetes, the body doesn't use glucose (sugar) very well. The glucose stays in your blood and acts like a poison. If you have diabetes, you can prevent kidney disease by controlling your blood sugar levels.
  • High Blood Pressure: High blood pressure can damage the small blood vessels in your kidneys. When this happens your kidneys cannot filter wastes from your blood very well. If you have high blood pressure (hypertension) be sure to take any medicines your doctor prescribes.
  • Heredity: Some kidney diseases result from hereditary factors, and can run in families. If your family has a history of any kind of kidney problems, you may be at risk for kidney disease and should talk to your doctor.

Yeah, I've been waiting for a long time for the proof of all these claims...but seems people have been waiting years before me, and so far nothing.

I'd stick to what proof I've seen and experienced.
