| Double check the ingredients in your tomato sauce. If it's just tomato - no no-no's in it, go for it ~Brook

| Thanks Brook. The ones I checked at the store all had sugar in it. In fact a lot of stuff that I label read had sugar added...what is up with that?? Why do we need sugar in stuff like tomato sauce and tartar sauce. And salad dressing. Is it a law that they have to put it in...I am beginning to think so! I hate to drag the whole family around store to store just for a can...okay...6, so I have spares, cans of tomato sauce. In the meantime I have a garden full of tomatoes and cherry tomatoes...that is why I asked if I could use them and just simmer them down. We are going to Walmart too tomorrow...so I can check there...they just put in their grocery section. Wish me luck!

| Sugar and corn syrups tend to be ways to mask the absolute pucky serving as food today. Preservatives, MSG, and other items trick your brain into thinking the items are tasty! And let's face it. We're a nation addicted to sugar. The food industry is keeping us drugged, fat, and slurping down our corn syrups. You will find that you might have to prepare your own sauces using canned or fresh tomatoes. Another alternative would be to turn to Alfredo sauces, which are more fatty. They are white sauces, but they are easy to prepare and delicious! Even the store-purchased Alfredo's tend to be rather low in carbohydrate value as well! I just love the stuff!

| Mmmmm...homemade tomato sauce! Go for it! Just remember that the a lot of tomatos can simmer down into a fairly small batch of sauce, so the carbs are much more concentrated. Use the regular tomatos as cherry tomatos are generally sweeter and higher in carbs. Thread the cherry tomatos on skewers and bbq them...MMMMMMMMMMM!!!! When's dinner...I'm coming over! |

| I buy hunts tomato sauce and find ones without added sugar. On the label is will say so many grams of sugar, but its NATURAL occuring sugars. Where they list the ingredients (Tomatoes, salt, broth etc), there should be no sugar listed in this area. Tomato sauces are higher in carb just because tomatoes are naturally sweet. If you use just enough, I don't see it would hurt your plan at all. Or if you're like me, just make sure during the day, you go a little lighter on your carby veggies to accomodate the higher carbs in the tomato sauce so you still get your daily intake.

| Heather beat me to it. Alot of times the sugar listed on the nutritional part of the label is naturally occuring sugar in the tomatos. I have no trouble finding tomato products w/o added sugar.

| NOTHING is better than home-made tomato sauce made with garden-grown tomatos (as opposed to the flavorless ones you buy in the store) Forget about looking for any canned varieties without sugar - get to the kitchen already!!!!

| I have found that all the popular name brands have added sugar listed in the ingredients. However, the store brand (the generic if you will) does not have sugar listed. I found this true in 3 supermarkets. I hope that helped!
