Default Newbie to the Atkins Diet!

Hey everybody, i'm wanting to do the Atkins diet but I have some questions. I'm very picky when it comes to food (I don't like pickles, tomatoes, and etc.) and if I was going to start doing this diet, could I just eat eggs in the morning, bacon cheeseburger (minus the bun but keep the lettuce) for lunch, and a steak for dinner (while drinking plenty of water)? Also, I have a exercise routine so-to-say, I will be bodyboarding (aka boogieboarding) out in Huntington Beach, California.

Thanks for reading this!

Hi, first of all welcome aboard !
The first thing you should do is buy yourself the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 DANDR) this is what we here at the board refer to.
Read that cover to cover.
You will find a whole lot of answers to your first questions there.
You will have to eat more vegetables than just a leaf of lettuce a day, but it is not necesary to eat tomatoes and apart from the lettuce there are probably other vegetables that you do like, so you can eat those instead.
But like I said, best is to first get the book and do some reading on the board too.

I love your handle! Hootiehoo!

Here is a wallet-sized induction list our mod Tammy made. I really highly recommend it for quick reference.

But definitely get the 2002 DANDR, and definitely eat vegetables as Atkins requested.

Welcome to

Hi, welcome to our family. The induction list that Cleo gave you is the best resource to carry with you all the time. Read the book, eat as Dr. Atkins suggests, exercise and drink water and you will definitely lose weight and feel great. It doesn't matter that you are a picky eater, just focus on the foods you like from the list and try the ones you've never eaten to see if you can make friends with new foods. I've learned to eat many new foods since doing this WOE.

There are lots of ideas, suggestions and information in this website that will help you stay motivated and inspire you as you get healthy. Best Wishes!!

You will probably want to eat more than that. How about a mid-morning snack and one in the afternoon?

And you have to eat THREE CUPS of veggies EVERY DAY. Not a leaf here and a leaf there........

You can do it!

Think nutritionally when it comes to your veggies. Each one has it's own unique combo of nutrients and fiber, so your body needs a variety in order to get the maximum nutritional punch, right? Experiment with the veggies on the Acceptable Foods list and expand your horizons so that you aren't just eating lettuce (iceberg lettuce, btw, is little more than chewable water when it comes to nutrient intake, so aim for dark leafy greens like romaine or spinach).

Also, spread your veggies out through the day as much as you can. It'll be better for your digestion and you will avoid getting an insulin spike by having all 3 cups at once.

I urge you to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, (DANDR for short) version 2002 so that you really understand the 'why' behind the plan...that'll help you a lot as well.
