Default Training Advice

Now that I am finally closing in on my goal weight, I have drastically stepped up my exercise routine. Previously I would walk 3 miles every day (roughly 39-41min walk time) and lift weights 3 times a week (nothing to intense just general strength building). My new routine wich I have been following for the past 2 weeks is as follows...

I am working the Couch to 5k program... Mon/Wed/Fri

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

And have adjusted my lifting schedule (intensity/weight) I am lifting to build muscle. Tue/Thur/Sat

Sunday being my off day to rest and recouperate.

As far as nutrition wise I am still following the extended induction as my CCL level atm is roughly 25g of carbs (dunno why its so low).

So the question is this...

With my increased activity/intensity of my workouts, will my body be able to repair/rebuild itself with such a low carb intake? I work in the healthcare field as a nursing assistant and a few of the nurses have said that with such a low carb intake, that I could be doing more harm then good. Do I need to be concearned about this. or continue to play it by ear and how my body responds to the increase in activity?

P.S. DOWN 103lbs!!!!

I don't know if I would worry about the Low carbs I would be more concerned on if you are gettign the proper amount of protein for your exercise regime. Protein is an importnat Building block for Muscle and also for Endurance athelites. My protein was too low when I started to really up my training and I fel fatigued and sore all the time. I figured that out and Upped it and Now I feel great I am also on a low amout of Carbs and in Extended induction rigfht now. I just ran 10 miles so really I wouldn't worry just be sure you are getting the protein your body needs to build and repair itself.

Protein is going to repair the muscle fibers after workouts. Make sure you are getting that in!! I had to up my protein a bit when I started working out. You'll should do fine with the intake of carbs. If not, post back here and maybe we can tweak it.

I agree totally with the advice you've already gotten .. PROTEIN will repair muscle tears and FAT will provide you with the energy you need. I've been running for going on 2 years and currently run 35 miles a week on less than 40 grams of carbs per day. I do, however, eat plenty of protein and fat. My training has never suffered AT ALL, even during long runs of 13-15 miles, for over 2 1/2 hours at a time.

Congratulations on your great exercise plan! Come on over to the cool running thread in the exercise room and post your progress on the Couch25k program!
