The one thing that makes me nervous about these "rapid weight loss"-crash type diets is you run the risk of gaining that weight back after you make goal. Okay, yeah, I get it----you need to lose weight to squeeze into a wedding dress and look good in the wedding photos and the honeymoon photos. But what good is that when you'll just blow back up to whale-size proportions afterwards??? Wouldn't the better wedding gift to yourself is being able to fit into that wedding dress and looking as good as that everyday?

| I think it's sexist and opportunistic, myself. What's a man doing intimating we aren't good enough to fit into that wedding dress and that HE can help us in a way we can't? Rubbish and piffle I say! Don't buy into that crock-o-crud. Until he dons a strapless and looks hot, he's just another guy trying to live off of the work of Dr Atkins and the inadequacy he hopes we feel as women.

| Any weight loss plan that includes: big diet secrets and extremely rapid weight loss is a fad diet..and is most likely unhealthy, possibly dangerous and should be avoided.

| You gals are Hysterical! And I totally agree. I have been away from ADBB for a WHILE because I just couldn't commit. I had about 20 lbs to lose to get back to my early dating weight…you know, the number I had BEFORE my adoring hunnybun came into my life and insisted on gourmet meals every night (blah!). Well, I have been working out regularly and I have maintained a good 5-6lb loss, but we finally set the church date for 2-25-06 and I just want to feel like the trying to lose weight crud is over with...I want to be maintaining already and I finally feel some motivation (err ACK) to stick with something! I had been bouncing around VERY briefly with Weight Watchers, and I hated it because the points system is so anti-fat that it drives me crazy!!! I can't STAND low fat anything, thanks to my fat-loving days on Atkins. One GREAT thing that I gained on Weight Watchers was a more realistic sense of portion control. I sabotaged myself on Atkins because my portion control and self-control were non-existent. I have struggled with them for years as a result of battling bigger eating disorders. Now, however, as I think of what I must do to be healthy and HAPPY, I am looking back to realistic portions and yummy food on Atkins and wondering if I shouldn't try just one more time...for GOOD! I have one small confession to make though. I want to set cheat dates...no kidding. Not a bunch of them, but special days...like Wedding, Christmas, etc. I plan to actually mark it on the calendar and enjoy. I think that this may allow me to plan and curb my anxiety (a MAJOR factor in eating disorders and self-sabotage) because I will allow myself to see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel occasionally. I know that this isn’t going to be popular with anyone on the board. I remember the way cheaters were treated during my last go-around with ADBB, and I understand that cheating is a stupid idea for most people who are on Atkins. I think my case is a little special though. For most people, the idea of portion control doesn’t mean years on eating disorders. I know this is a lot for me to spill to you guys, but let me know honestly…I think that LOW CARB in GENERAL is exactly where I need to be…no bread, no pasta, no starchy stuff on a daily basis. BUT, life is too short for me to wrap myself up into a tiny ball and freak out every time I see a cookie. And that it what I do. Freak out, then eat every piece of meat in sight and puke. You tell me which is worse? |

| Fayster, after you finish with Induction, move to OWL, find your CCLL and go through the carb ladder. I found my CCLL and have gone through the ladder so I can eat a wider variety of foods. For example, I know that I can eat some popcorn tonight if I want, just like I know I can eat apples. The diet is easier to stick to when you move to OWL because of the wide variety of foods. Plus, you still lose weight during OWL, which means you can eat a greater variety of food and lose the pounds.

| Yes... the sooner you get to OWL and are able to increase your food choices, things become so much easier.

| That kind of does and kind of doesn't answer the CHEAT question...I understand that OWL is ongoing weight loss, but it is much slower, right? DOn't I belong on something more flexible throughout like a general low-carb option diet? I don't really want to climb a ladder... |

| Fayster-- I'll be wholly honest with you. If it's tweaking this WOE you want, you run a very real risk of falling off the wagon. We are all adicted to carbohydrates, because they are like powerful drugs. When we hit detox during the 14-day induction period, a lot of us feel so miserable that we begin to understand what a powerful grasp carbs really have on this society and on us. You will succeed on this way of eating because you are limiting the amount of carbohydrate-drugs you are allowing into your body. Now you wonder about overdosing on drugs once a month when you're a carb-addict in recovery. I'll say don't do it or you'll regret it, but if you plan to do it, you will do it. I just know, first-hand, what those once-a-month cheats do. Because last year I took that road. I'm never going to travel that road again. I hope I've made your mistakes for you and that you can learn to stay away from those things which made you miserable in the first place. I want that for you more than anything else!
