Well, around here it depends. On average I'd say yeah, cheaper and waaaaay better produce. I live out in the country where the the farmers are. I've been to big markets in the city (Toronto) and they're sometimes more expensive then the grocery stores. At my local market, organic produce is much cheaper. I just like farmer's markets.

| There's one here locally and I want to support the local farmers as much as is possible, especially when they grow organic produce! Thanks Isabeau!

There is a farmers market where I live almost everyday. I have been getting some amazing produce-it tastes so much better than store-bought veggies! Most of the farmers markets in these parts are organic. I have been getting tons of tomatoes, zucchini, and chard lately.

Our farmer's market here is much much cheaper than the grocery stores. At the grocery store, I'm lucky to find a head of lettuce (half brown and sickly looking) for $1.29+. At the farmer's market its never over $.99 and its crisp and fresh looking. Plus, ours also has a butcher shop, a fish market, and a wine/cheese shop in the market, so it covers absolutely everything I'd need. I don't have to see those icky inner aisle there.

We quite regularly zip to a local farmers market on our scooters and get hormone-free pork and veggies. Sometimes the veggies are on par or slightly more than the grocery store, but for the most part everything is cheaper. The peppers are significantly cheaper...$3.99 for a red pepper in the store and generally under $2 at the market!!! Everything seems much fresher and as I mentioned they do a lot of their own meat there and all the products are excellent. I like the atmosphere there as well..it's just so cool! We'll go out there and have a bite to eat (they have a fresh sandwich counter) and a coffee and then do our shopping. It's a lovely ride out there too. I'm rambling..somebody stop me....lol...

Hey Cleo... eons ago when I was in high school in Denver, a friends family belonged to a co-op type thing wherer they paid a set amount a month, and on Saturdays, only members could go pick up as much as they needed. They were thrilled with that, it was apparently enough to support the farmers, some of them even only sold to this co-op, it was all organic (this was one of THOSE familys, wink wink, except when it came to chocolate, and then it was no holds barred, bring it on!), and I remember Mom (cause we all called her mom) talking about how much more of a bargain it was. I am sorry all I remember is the vauge generals... but it might be worth looking for. I went to Ranum HS for a year, btw, they lived very close to Ranum. Good luck in your search.
