Default food combining

Does it matter what you eat with what??

For instance if I am eating 5 oz watermelon as my snack should I be having a fat with it or can I just eat it by itself? Or if I am having hot drink made with heavy cream and water should I be having something else with that?

Does it matter? Or does it depend how my body reacts to it..IE...does not set off cravings if eaten by itself.

To lessen the affects the watermelon will have on your bloodstream, I'd slather it in butter. *lol*

If the watermelon in no way makes you hungrier in a short period of time, you probably are more immune to small bits of carbs like that without effect. If, however, you feel hungry or have cravings, it is better to have that watermelon with something that is either protein or fatty in nature.

I know one day I drank a V-8 alone and within 30 minutes I was starving. And even my salads I have only with meat. But I'm more susceptible to blood sugar rushes than you might be.

You have to eat carbs in combination with fat. A high glycemic index fruit like watermelon should be consumed with fat (like cheese or cream or even a herb infused oil) in order to prevent your blood sugar from surging and bottoming out.

Thanks Cleo and Megs.
Cleo..I will pass on the slather it with butter suggestion...LOL

Megs..if my blood sugar surges and bottoms out then would that cause cravings?? Or make me tired or stop burning fat?? And would 5oz(5g of carbs) do this?

A sudden fall in blood sugar causes a "reactive hypoglycemia". The list of symptoms for this blood sugar instability is in chapter 13 in the Blood Sugar Symptom Test. In fact, I've found that the Blood Sugar Symptom Test in the book is a much more reliable and immediate way to see if a food disagrees with you than waiting for the weight loss stalling effects of that food.

Can 5 grams of carbs do it? It's possible and it depends on your body's insulin sensitivity.

Thanks Megs!

To Clarify:
Carbs (especially those found in fruit) should be eaten with a fat.
A fat can be eaten alone
A protein can be eaten alone

Is this correct?

Carbs (all of them) should be eaten with some sort of fat. The fiber in the carb food will help to slow down its digestion but the fat will slow it down even more.

Fat can be eaten alone. So it's okay to et an ounce of cheese as a snack.

Protein. Animal proteins contain fat. Even the "lean" meat contains fat (something the low fat people don't care to admit readily). In some cases the difference between the "lean" and the regular is 1-2 grams of fat, like in the case of water packed tuna and oil packed tuna. Vegetable proteins, like tofu, generally don't contain as much fat as the animal proteins (another thing the low fat people like to tout), but they still contain a type of fat---a plant fat.
