| The best advice I can give you is to eat several small meals through your day. Not full size meals, but smaller ones (think good sized snacks)...spaced 3 to 4 hours apart. This'll keep your blood sugars on an even keel which in turn calms down the cravings. Also, make sure you choose a protein/fat combo. It'll satisfy you quicker and sustain you longer...so have an egg...or tuna with mayo and celery...or roll cheese up in deli meats and have some radishes with that. You should never get STARVING, because that's against what Dr. Atkins tells us to do and it's detrimental to your success. Plan your meals for the day and stick to your schedule as best you can. Never ever go longer than 6 hours without eating, and don't ever skip breakfast. Make sure you are taking an iron free vitamin as we are told to do in DANDR. Work on your frame of mind...think in terms of eating healthier and kicking the carb cravings to the curb. The carb cravings can be as emotional as they are physical. Once the first two weeks of Induction are over, a person should be past the physical cravings. Give yourself time to deal with the emotional attachment you have had with carbs that were your comfort foods. It took me a heck of a long time to get over that, and I still can get nostalgic walking through the bakery section of the grocery store. When you do have these cravings, feed them, but only give them the good stuff...a boiled egg, a piece of cheese, any of the items I've already mentioned. Teach your body that if it is wanting something, you'll feed it, but you'll feed it what it needs, not what it wants. You are calling the shots now...not your cravings. Also, it can take time to get back in tune with your stomach and to know whether you are actually truly hungry, or just bored or sad or something, and searching for comfort. It's quite the journey, this whole Atkins stuff, isn't it? |

| I am in my seventh week, I try to keep below 25 carbs (or at the very least thirty), I don't have any unconventional recipes I like or foods that I eat; but I get VERY VERY VERY bad cravings still. I know that I will not eat off, I would feel too guilty, but the cravings are very intense. I take a low carb vitamin and a B supplement, as well as birth control. I will take the OCCASIONAL Trimspa before I go out to eat (lunch, at work in groups where I may be the most tempted) because I find that it really does work well to keep my appetite down, but I know it's not really legal. It's just frustrating to dream about pasta sometimes! Sigh.

| Folks, you have a choice here. Tough love alert!! You can do one of two things: You can follow Atkins as laid out in DANDR....a proven plan that gives proven results(just go look at the Before and After forum), and you can end up beating your sugar cravings, learning new eating habits, changing yourself into a person who automatically turns to good healthy choices, losing the weight and keeping it off. OR You can muck around doing it *your* way, making up your own Rules, turning to processed concoctions and magic pills but what do they teach you about doing this way of eating long term? What are you learning? What new habits are you forming? Will you end up being one of those people who comes back saying "Atkins didn't/doesn't work for me!" because they tweaked it away from it's original path? You don't need pills or processed gunk. You need the book, you need the outer walls of the grocery store (produce, meat, dairy) and you need the realization that there are no magic wands out there. And if there are, what if they quit making them (as they did recently with a ton of low carb products being discontinued), where will you be then? I realize that you have both talked about occasionally using these things and my reaction may seem over the top, but honestly...keep it simple, follow the book, make the committment to rely on yourself, because that's all you need. |

| You can follow Atkins as laid out in DANDR. I reccommend that also. On page 136 "If you have sugar cravings you can take 500 mg of L-glutamine (one or two tablets) prior to each meal." Chromium Picolinate Linked With Reduced Carbohydrate Cravings Carb Craving News BJ Webb |

| Are you eating enough fats? The best thing for me is a meal of sausage fried with onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. I would use a fat such as butter to fry it in. I eat this whenever I am going to go to a non Atkins party, buffet etc. I am usually not tempted very much. I have to have it very high fat though, if I want to combat the cravings.

I found that when sugar cravings hit, I'd have some cheese or something really high fat. And in about 20 minutes, the cravings were gone. Maybe that would help you too.
