Default How to handle setbacks?

Hi all,
I completed the induction and then fell off the program. I feel horrible and want to get back on. I was off for 3 days. I am wondering if I should just go straight back to induction until I get back in ketosis? Then start the add 5 carbs a week process? I lost 9 on induction and I have about 12 to go (probably more after the past 3 days, I am afraid to weigh), to get to goal. What should I do? All these Christmas treats around from neighbors are making me crazy! Plus I ended induction right at my TOM so maybe that is why I let it happen. Still trying to figure it out! Help please!

Yup, straight back into induction for a few days - and there's a lot of things around at Christmas that are very Atkins-friendly.

You've admitted that you lost control and that you want to get back in control. Get right back in there, post often, and don't beat yourself up over what happened. The more you beat yourself up the more likely you are to repeat mistakes. It happened, it is in the past and it's going to stay there.

Best wishes

Deborah

Hi, Wendy! You're looking at a way of eating for life and not just a diet, so sometimes people with less weight to lose, like you, miss out on the mental journey to thinness. You're already so small you have to run around the shower just to get wet. Weight loss is psychological, and deciding that we will be healthy and fit for life is so important! If we just have the diet mentality, it's something we can go on and off of. If you function really well on Atkins, the question you would have to ask yourself is why you'd then sabotage that effort, if it turns out to be a regular occurance.

You can make it to goal and be there forever. I sure admire your gumption to get ehere, too.

Good for you, wanting to get straight back on and not wait until after the holidays. Don't judge yourself harshly for falling off the wagon for a few days... all that's past now. Look to the future, enjoy the wonderful things you can eat on Atkins and you'll be fine.

Happy losing!
Sal

Thanks guys for being there for moral support. i already know that I have a problem with binge eating and that is why I think Atkins is for me because it is supposed to take away all the cravings. I know that for me eating sugary high carb foods is emotional more than anything and so learning how to overcome that emotion will be my test. I think just realizing that it is emotional is a step in the right direction (every good memory I have is associated with get-togethers with lots of food!). The holidays are very difficult as my family members are always trying to get you to cheat "just a little". I know I don't have a lot to loose but I have a whole closet full of clothes that are just a little too tight that I am tired of staring at and wishing I could fit in them. I just want to learn to be in control all the time! Thanks for being there and listening. I will do this!

I found that TOM does literally pounds on me... fluctuations of 5-8 pounds are normal for me, so weighing is always some kind of guesstimate, when TOM is in or ahead... with about 12 pounds to lose, just take it easy. Relax. Take a deep breath. Drink your water. Exercise, Everything will be fine.

As Cleo pointed out, Atkins is about a new way of life & eating, not just a diet. Of course we are all glad to shed the pounds, but the process of adopting a new WOE is as important as losing the weight. Maybe your 'few' (at least in contrast to what many people here want to lose) pounds need a few weeks longer to go, need a little more exercise (muscle weight adds up, too), but in the long run you will be a new healthier you, so don't give up, you are going to make it - and the people here will be right by your side to help you in a struggle.

(Initially, I read your post because of the word setback... I have been sick for months, living on food bank stuff and other donated food, I am broke, but I know I'll be back and what keeps up my spirits is coming back here ever so often and read the posts and great stickies - for me ADBB is a lifeline).
