Default Seattle Doctor?

Does anyone know of a good doctor in the seattle area that promotes atkins and would help aid in my weight loss?

My current doctor does not approve. I'm ditch her!

-----

Let me rephrase, how do you go about finding a good doctor who will support you and not keep telling you that you are not losing weight the right way and that it will just come back?

Does anyone have a close relationship with their doctor in regards to their Atkins diet? One who understands the diet and concepts and is a promoter?

My doctor hates Atkins, but LOL, I tried to change his mind by getting skinny and heathy.

You might want to just start making some phone calls.

Some doc's will do a free consolidation for possible new patients...you could ask some questions then. Actually you could probably ask the nurse, I'm sure they could share whether the doctor supports the Atkins WOE.

For what its worth, from experience and listening to other comments from other people. The doctors are generally split 50/50 with regards to their opinions on the good ole Atkins diet!

Personally my doctor is very much FOR it, but he lives in England which is unfortunately a long way from Seattle, but I think Sheshy is right, I think you should make some calls to your local doctors and see what they have to say.

It's not something I've discussed with my doctor and I'm just happy to let my improved health and weightloss speak for themselves. I know how much weight I need to lose and I aim to do that this year.

Best of luck in finding a doctor who will LISTEN to you. They may have all the fancy qualifications under the sun but it's your body. You'd think with all the facts and figures they give us about obesity in the Western World that people doing something about their weight would be applauded, not hindered...

I'd just make some calls, maybe some online research and ask... when I ended up in the emergency room with food poisoning... I barely mentioned that I'd been off sugar for a while... low carbing... didn't mention the word atkins... I was too sick to even think clearly.... but the doc DID say that 'low carb was a great option for losing'....

hope you find one that you feel comfortable with... (I'm in the southeast.. Georgia... so I'm no help to you... but good luck!)

k, here's what I would do. Agree with the doctor that they weight will come back. But remind her that the same is true of any diet. Also, show her a menu from a typical day. She probably thinks you sit around the house eating bacon cheeseburgers all day (sans the bun). As long as you are eating your veggies like you should, they will make up a rather large portion of your foods. Ask her what is wrong with choosing a salad at lunch rather than a sandwich. I'm sure it something she has done before. Also, it sounds like it's too late, but I wouldn't tell her at all if possible. Just tell her that you have decided to cut starchy "veggies", pasta, white bread, etc. and refined sugars from your diet. It's true. And when you get to the appropriate rung of OWL you will be adding back healthier starches like whole grain bread, wheat pastas, etc. You (and the rest of us here at ADBB) are the only ones who know and understand that this time pasta will be a side dish, not the main course. That all those potential trigger foods will be eaten in small doses and that you are in a process of learning to listen to your body, finding out what sends you overboard and on a binge, or just isn't tolerated well by your body. I'm not even a good example of a true Atkineer, but I do eat low carb, and I don't crave sugar (AND I haven't gained back my weight). I actually choose to have marinara over broccoli instead of pasta, it's good, I like it that way. I have a new love for veggies and it's spreading to my friends. When I go out, it's surprisingly easy to substitute veggies for fries or potatoes. I love going to the gym, I think they must even talk about me a bit due to the changes I have made. Just tell her that it's a lifestyle change, you're finished with dieting.
