Talking Should I change my goal weight?

I set my goal weight at 200 lbs because that is what I weighed when I was lifting weights and playing sports, back in my “Glory Days”. I went on a couple of medical web sites and looked up my ideal body weight and it says I should weigh between 132 – 174 lbs. That seems kind of low to me. So should I change my goal weight to something like 170? Please share your thoughts with me. Thanks!

How tall are you. Those sights are a farce as far as I am concerned if you do any kind of weight lifting or any kind of Sports they are way off on where you should be at. For me those sights say I should weigh in at 125 pounds the Problem is I have my Body fat Mass BioElectronically taken and I am 130lbs of LBM if I went by those sights not only would my goal be very unachievable I would lose a ton of LBM trying to get there. People put too much emphasis on charts and stuff and not enough on how they feel. Sure you may go to the doc and be in the recommended range but, you also may feel like crap.

I would say Get down to 200 lbs your first goal then adjust it from there if you feel awesome and look awesome at 200 then that's where you should be. If you get there and feel like you got a little more to lose you don't have the defininition you want then change your goal down 10 pounds and see how you feel and look. Don't rely on the charts they will only frusturate you.

I also agree. Get down to 200 and then see how you feel, you will know if its right or not. I think to many folks set goals way low because they use to weight that back when they were 16.

I too agree.

If you look at "ideal eight" in the site I offered, you will see that it does not return a fixed value for your height. If your start weight is high, your "ideal" or target weight is hiegher than the medical target range. Experimment with a few fictional figures to see what I mean.

But a table is just that - a table and a tool. When you have lost a significant ammount you will be able to make a judgement about yourself by "look and feel".

One of our most sucessful loosers, Tommy, no longer declares weight or goal weight but body fat percentage. He is probably very muscular now and rather heavier that his shape suggests.

Kent too seems to be setting targets in terms of Body Fat Percentage
