| I ran into an Atkins basher the other day. First she complimented me on my weight loss and then asked me what diet I was on …. and then it started. Well, I listened for about 3 seconds and then asked her if she’s read the book. We all know what the answer was. I stopped her right there and said that she must first read the book (even offered that she could borrow mine) and then come back to me and tell me what she thought. That was it …. end of conversation. If they have not read the book, they cannot comment But you’re right LC Dave …. AB’s (Atkins Bashers) are really annoying!!

| Sometimes I feel when they ask - 'what are you doing to lose the weight?' I wanna say "OH I got the lap band WLS'! I bet their response would be all positive and congratulatory. They would believe I did because of my size. But if you say "I'm doing Atkins" they expect you to drop dead shortly!

| Oh, I know exactly what you mean – any other diet – just not ATKINS!!! I’ve heard them all. A lady at work told me the other day that I must go on the Bio Slim diet (pills, shakes and meal program) – this is one of those mail order diets. Well, to tell you a secret, I’ve been on this diet and did not loose a thing and it cost me a lot of money. And the other this is, their meal plan is high protein/low carb – a copy of the Atkins Induction Diet – exactly the same. So what is the difference – when you pay a lot of money for a diet, it will work and you will be SO healthy, but when you follow Atkins “you will drop dead shortly” (to quote your phrase). The same diet – different names!!! ![]() Oh, how stupid are the uninformed!!!

| I agree. People can be so ignorant and just bash something that they refuse to learn about.

| I got that this week at work. We were sitting around the lunch table... Young guy, around 20 and healthy makes a nice comment about how it looks like I've been losing weight. Ok, I'm eating a nice salad, with broc, cauliflour, peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, bacon bits and ranch dressing... he's eating country fried steak, mashed potatoes/gravy, corn (I remember these things becaue they were all things that I would have eaten before and that's why I'm fat now!!!), a dinner roll and a big slice of pecan pie. I said proudly, "Yes, I've lost about 25 lbs in a little over a month", and proceded to thank him for noticing. Then the obvious question... "How'd you lose that much so fast?" Well, I'm doing Atkins, eating healthy, exercising almost every day... yada yada yada. "You can't stay on the very long, it's really not healthy, and by the way, aren't you tired all of the time because you can't eat carbs?" Well, I'm hoping that I stay on it for a long time, it's my new WAY OF LIFE. And, no, I'm not tired nearly as often as I was when I was eating lots of sugar and processed foods. "I just don't see how you can have any energy without carbs". It's easy, I'm burning fat as my fuel, and I've got plenty of that to burn! "You'll never be able to keep the weight off eating all that fat". Hmmm.... I'm eating it now and you noticed how much I've lost. End of discussion. |

| I've noticed that nobody really says anything to me when I'm fat, but the moment I start losing weight, people come out of the woodwork to tell me what diet I should be on! I'm like "hey, I don't need you now, where were you when I could have used some advice?"

| Good point America! And why do people feel the need to offer their opinions anyway. I think it's kind of rude. Like if you said "I'm wearing red today because I feel good in it" and someone says "Really? You look horrible. It does nothing for your complexion. I hear people who wear red don't get dates because people think they are agressive." You understand what I'm saying? Of course it's rude to say "Who asked for your opinion?" when they start but it's very frustrating. A girl at work the other day said something about "oh, you're still on that Atkins thing?" in a dismissive tone of voice. Two days later she said "well, I'm going on a cruise this summer and I want to lose a couple of pounds. I'd better cut back on the carbs." Hmmm. Does she listen to herself?

| I just ask them to share the medical studies they read to support their statements cause I would really lioke to read them as i didn't come across any like that when I reserached my plan. Next time I see them i cut off any discussion by just asking if they have the studies yet for me to read.
