Question Whey Protein - SWEET??

Okay so about half hour ago I was ready to log on here to post HELP!!!

And instead... I went to the kitchen to get my keys to head to the store...

...when it occured to me to wonder...

...whether 'tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous hungers, or to take artifical sweetener against a sea of cravings, and by opposing end them...

...that is, to wonder whether perhaps it would be better to go ahead and have some artificial sweetener -- despite my resolve not to, not any ever, not at all -- since right now my mood is terrible anyway AND I'm about to go eat something lots worse...

And then I remembered, I have these big ol' mega buckets of whey protein powder!!

I purchased them some time ago when I was off Atkins but still watching carbs.

It's actually quite tasty & filling stuff. But I eventually noticed that drinking it on a regular basis made asthma return. So I stopped using it.

They've been sitting around for quite a while. But the date says they're still good for another ...two years...

So anyway, the thing about this stuff is that it tastes quite good. In fact, very sweet. But I've read the label (apparently written by a chemist), and nowhere amongst the ingredients can I identify any kind of sweetener. (Unless they were really devious and hid sweetener as "natural and artificial flavors?" - it is vanilla-flavored - but I don't think they're allowed to do that.)

Or is whey protein just naturally sweet???????

It came from Vitamin World. (When I bought it they looked at the ingredients list with me and said, nope, no sweeteners here.) The brand is "Precision Engineered" and the label says WHEY PROTEIN - Pure Whey Protein Powder - Vanilla Flavor. It claims to have, in one scoop, 17 grams of protein, 1.5 fat, and 1 carb.

Does anyone know anything about this stuff?? I don't plan to use it on a regular basis - I cannot afford to deal with asthma coming back again - but, if it's really as good as it claims to be, it just might become my new favorite sweets-cravings-emergency-management-tool!

ps I suspect I've posted this in the wrong place but couldn't figure out the right place - sorry about that!

Vanillia whey protein has sweetner added look for AceK apartame and other sweetnes. whey is sweet but that is cause it has lactose in it.

A lot of people use whey protein as flour (Dana Carbender, for example). I don't know about added sweetener, but I noticed when I used straight whey powder (sprinkled it on the dogs food to make their coat shiny) it was sweet smelling, and it wasn't anything more than straight, in bulk, whey powder.

Of course, I find lots of things sweet, without adding any sweetener, so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt (which, in itself is sweet, too)

a little whey 101

whey powder has the lactose from the milk and some proteins it it
LOW CARBERS DO NOT WANT TO USE THAT!

whey protein isolate is only the protein from that powder and ynless added things like flavorings and sweetners have been added is carb free.

whey Protein concentrate is a blend of slightly inproved whey powder ( some of the lactose has been removed and it is higher concentration of protein to carbs)and protein isolate. Depending on the maker it can have very few carbs or many as cost is a very deciding factor in how much isolate goes in the blend. Flavoring and sweetners are added and the carbs go up some.

It is up to you to decide when you are in OWL which you will use and count the carbs. During induction isolate is a protein source acceptable for induction.
