Nalgene bottles are GREAT for water too... they're typically 32 oz. (though you can get smaller ones) and absolutely leak proof. And break proof -- trying running one over with your car, or dropping it from the roof of a building -- it will be fine (seriously). They come in wide or small mouth lids, and if you get the wide one you can also get a splash guard if you're going to be drinking in the car or while exercising (that way you don't get water on you). I love mine -- I have 4 of them (one for house, one for car, one for work, and one for hiking/camping/climbing)!!

Yeah, I've read about that before (it's kind of along the lines of people saying it's unsafe to re-fill water bottles you buy, which is not true http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/petbottles.asp). Most of the research done is on the old Lexan used in the 1980s and not on the current Lexan that Nalgene uses. You can go to www.nalgene.com for more information about the safety of their products. I've been a firm believer and have used mine daily for 4 years now!

Sandi - the Nalgene bottles do not get a weird smell or taste no matter how long you use them (seriously one of mine I've had for 4 years and it's as good as new!). That's one of the great things about them. I cannot speak to the Rubbermaid bottles as far as retaining smell/taste.
