Default Rungs?

I now have the '02 book and I'm reading it. My question is, as I have been reading some of the posts I notice where some are in OWL Rung 1 or OWL Rung 7. I not sure I understand what this is about so could someone tell me what chapter this information is in? I would like to read about it.

Thanks in advance.

In the OWL chapter, Dr. Atkins talks about a "carbohydrate ladder". A 'rung' is the step-like thing on a ladder. So we talk about the "fruit rung", as opposed to writing the phase of the OWL carb ladder in which we add fruit.

Read Chapter 14 where Dr Atkins describes the Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) phase to find out about the way to progress up the 'carbohydrate Ladder'. He refers to different 'levels' rather than the more picturesque term of 'rung' which we tend to use here!

We're creative with the book that way! Ratios aren't in the DANDR either. Some things we've improved upon as a whole.

It's all good.

S: (n) ladder (steps consisting of two parallel members connected by rungs; for climbing up or down)

Ladder
Framework which consists of two parallel side pieces which are connected by a series of rungs or crosspiece which are used for climbing up and down.

Actually we aren't creative with the book ladders by definition have rungs as the steps.
SO as we climb the OWL carbohydrate ladder each rung is one of the 9 steps Dr Atkins has placed on his ladder.

if one wants to do an analysis of the sample menues in the later chapters of DANDR one will discover the ratios for themselves or they could have called Dr Atkins medical center back before he died and been told by the medical staff Dr Atkins had fielding questions as he recommened in his books and they would have told you about them just as Dr Atkins did when the DUKE U. study of induction was being done and those docs ask him personally how much protein was too much and how much fat was too low.

Call me "Type A Personality" Girl, but when I began Atkins, I was concerned about the serving sizes of food because I wanted to have an idea how much is "okay" per meal. So I analyzed the menues in the book and I analyzed the recipes in the book. The serving sizes came roughly to 3-7 ounces of cooked protein per meal (meat 'shrinks' during cooking due to water loss, so cooked meat weighs less than raw meat the recipes listed in the ingredients) and 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons of added fat per meal. The carb amounts are limited due to the carb limitations in the Rules and Foods list.

Anyhow, the important thing to remember about the OWL foods is that every food has its own carb count that varies in how the food is prepared (cooked versus raw). So you need to look up the amounts in a carb counter because '1 cup' of something can be 0.5 net carbs or 60 net carbs!

Call them 'levels' or call them 'rungs' or call them 'steps' or call them "additions" in the OWL forum, we'll know what you're talking about--semantics are semantics. Heck, on ADBB we even call the diet by it's old name, Atkins Diet, when Dr. Atkins changed it to "The Atkins Nutritional Approach".

yep Megs me too I even made the phone call to Dr Atkins to find out how much was too much protein and how much fat was low fat so I knew how to do it right.

Did the same thing with OWL and that confusing part in chapter 14 about the new groups 3 times so that is how I know it was a typo and dhould be food not group cause even they didn't know and had to call me back after checking it out.

The good Doctor was already dead when I begun and I hadn't found ADBB. So, I did my own detective footwork by going through the recipe section in the book and in the cookbook that came along with my book (I bought as a 3-book package from Amazon). In a way it was good not only for the portion control aspect, but also because I was able to see how the Atkins recipes were and was able to look for "naturally" Atkins legal recipes in mainstream cookbooks like those by Julia Childs and Pierre Franey. For OWL I had you guys to help me.
