Default Balance Bar, what is a net carb?

Does anyone know if these are ok to eat? I just tried one today the chocolate an peanut butter bar, anyway it says their are 22 carbs but you only count 2g net carbs what does this mean, I only took to little bites just to make sure, I heard of net carbs but mainly I have stood away from all carbs, any help would be great, by the way they taste pretty good I would hope some how we could eat these.

You need to get a copy of the Atkins book so you can really understand this way of eating! They are about 75 cents on half.com

As for net carbs, that is when you subtract the fiber from the total carb count. What is left are your net carbs.

The manufacturers of those low carb products would have you ignore sugar alcohols, glycerine etc because our bodies generally metabolize them more slowly. Well, they still get metabolized and since they stay pretty much whole until they hit your intestines, they cause you to bloat with gas when you start digesting them there

We advise that you stay away from them unless they are an ABSOLUTE last resort (like you had no other food available but a Snickers ). They cause most people to stall, increase your sweet cravings and inhibit your ability to learn to eat this way for good.

Probably wasn't what you hoped for, huh?

Please read the book and the stickys. You can't stay away from all carbs, you must eat your 3 cups veggies a day. If you don't follow Dr. Atkins plan, this will not work for you. A net carb is when you take the fiber count out of a veggie carb to get the total. For example, 5 medium Asparagus is 4 total carbs, 2 total fiber, for 2 net carbs. Please, for your health, read the book!
Oh, and stay away from bars, low carb candy, anything made in a lab. Please keep us posted!

I agree with the lovely posters above! I have eaten a low-carb bar on occasion, and have regretted the heck out of it the next day. The gas! The bloating! The sort-of-kind-of sugar cravings! So, not worth it. Step away from the "diet food" aisle! Bad mojo lurking in that aisle!

Good luck!

Also, the ingredients on a lot of bars are not appropriate for induction. Peanuts come to mind, for example.

Well that solves that problem, I only took two little bites didn't even eat half of it, anyway thanks for all the info I have not cheated once in almost a month an a half so these bars won't make me start, I do eat the low carb ice cream once in awhile it hasn't seemed to slow my weight loss down.
