Default Sugar-Free Chocolate - OK or not OK?

I loooooove chocolate, so I bought some Russell Stover Sugar-Free chocolate (it has maltitol, so I only eat 2-3 a day). I figured that given the nutrition information, each one has only 1g carb. I have been on Atkins for about 3 weeks and have actually gained weight. I wonder if the chocolate is the culprit. The nutrition information is as follows:

Total carbs: 25g
Dietary fiber: 5g
Sugar alcohols: 19g

Am I correct with the calcuolations? Thanks.

What stage of the diet are you on? As it will make a difference.

Please advise.

It may not be something you can have yet, but for my chocolate fix I have Soy Slender Chocolate soy milk. It actually tastes really good. I used to keep lc chocolate in my cupboard, but I like the soy milk because it's got a fair amount of protien, some fat, and 1 carb per cup (4 carbs fiber). It doesn't trigger cravings for me like sf candy does.

Yeah, having one actually made me want more, but I paid for it yesterday! I had 4 and my stomach was not happy with me! Ha Ha. My husband likes his low carb Reece's Peanut butter cups, but I have turned to the sugar free ones because I think they should be ok. I am going to try to wean him off of those, too. We like the Carb Countdown Chocolate milk. That should be ok, right? I can probably make homemade chocolate popcicles out of it as a treat.

I am a firm believer in the "no frankenfoods during induction" theory.

Thats my personal belief anyway. They are evil things! Dangerously giving people the taste for sweet stuff again.

Just my 2pence worth.

Rich is right. The objective of induction and extended induction is to purge your system of the sugar demon (and SF demon). You need to do a CLEAN induction for maximum success.

Thanks for all your replies. I am going to start over on a clean induction. I have been on Atkins before, and this time, I'm having a tough time staying away from the frankenfoods. I see "Good for Low Carb Diets" and I buy it. I will keep trying to remember not to eat processed foods.

Yep, what richt says is true. Try to keep whole foods the center of your life. I just took a look at Carb Countdown and it has 3 sugars. I would so no to that for now. Mine has less than 1 per serving. I would totally avoid the sugar free candies, that will just keep you bad carb cravings active. But you really should leave all of these things out of induction. Breaking that sweet craving is really hard, but it really frees you. What about SF jello? I think that's common for folks that really need a fix. Or would a sweet Diet Rite flavor help? Not real food, but better than falling off the wagon.
