Default Help!!!

Hello, everyone. I have a very important question to ask all of you. As many of you know, I have been trying to lose about 100 lbs by following the Atkins diet. Well, the two weeks, just generally doing meat and egg, I lost 12 lbs. ( That weigh in was on 03/15/06. ) Well, I weighed in today, and I had only lose 3.5 lbs since then. My question is this... I started taking large doses of Inositol..( roughly 10-15g per day, because I did research on the net, and apparently it is used to help people with eczema and anxiety disorder(which I have). The only effect I'm basically getting from it is.. this is gross... diarrhea... daily. So, I am wondering number one, if anyone knows about this, and if I'm just wasting my money, since it seems that every time I take 5g tablespoons full of this stuff, that I'm going to the bathroom within 10 minutes. Also, could this be contributing to my slow loss??? Apparently, inositol is supposed to be sort of like sugar, chemically-speaking. Anyway, I've posted my food for the past few days on fitday. If anyone has any suggestions, I would gladly appreciate it. It seems that since I added that celery stalk with cream cheese, my weightloss has slowed. Surely, that's not too many carbs!!!.. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. I'm REALLY distressed about this.

Default Re: Help!!!

The diet soda can slow you down, and your body can get used to the very low carbs you are giving it. You are supposed to eat 3 cups of veggies a day. To be honest with you, the diet you are on isn't true Atkins. I am not trying to be mean or hurt your feelings, but I am a bit worried about your lack of veggies. Please, read the book (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution).
That medication you are on, is it from your Doctor?? If not, don't take it. I have lost 20 pounds without any 'help' from pills and I feel fantastic!! If I can do it, you can do it! I actually started losing better after I moved on to OWL and added the extra veggies to my diet.
May I ask, why aren't you eating more veggies?

According to this website http://westsuffolkpsych.homestead.com/inositol.html
Quote:
2.The chief side effects of inositol are gas and diarrhea. Some people get this for the first few days and then it clears up. Some of those taking it never have this side effect, and some only get it when they take more than a particular amount.
The site also recommends you tell your doctor about taking this and gives instructions on building up the dosage slowly.

Well, I'm not going to take the Inositol for now. I am also going by the 1972 version of Dr. Atkins' book, so basically, there are a lot less veggies. Plus, I absolutely HATE them!!! lol... I guess I can force-feed some in every day.

I agree with sunflowergrl about the lack of veggies!
We are supposed to get 'more than half' of our carbs from our veggies and with only 2 stalks of celery that doesnt make anywhere near half of your carbs.

From what I can see once you deduct the fibre you are only having 3 net carbs of veg!! So to comply with the 'more than half' rule you would be allowed only 2.9 net carbs of other food!

I am glad you are dropping the diarrhoea pills for the moment

You may not have noticed that the advice we give here at ADBB is based on the 2002 DANDR, so you might be wise to mention you are following the older version in your signature to avoid more posts from wellmeaning members advising you that you are not following the plan correctly!!

Thanks. There's no room in my siggy for anything else! lol... I think the only difference is the added low carb goodies in the 2002 plan, which I wouldn't eat, anyway..lol..

There are more differences than that! Try this link to the DANDR 2002 - it's the whole text and it's free.

Jennifer is right - there are a lot more differences than that.
For a start the 3 cups of veggies each day!

As to 'low-carb goodies' Dr Atkins says in the 2002 version
Quote:
Convenience Foods
Although it is important that you eat primarily unprocessed foods, some controlled carb food products can come in handy when you are unable to find appropriate food, can't take time for a meal or need a quick snack. More and more companies are creating healthy food products that can be eaten during the Induction phase of Atkins. Just remember two things:
Not all convenience food products are the same, so check labels and carbohydrate content.
While any of these foods can make doing Atkins easier, don't overdo it. Remember, you must always follow The Rules of Induction
so he is not giving permission for frequent use of these and tells us to check the labels to make sure the products come within the guidelines of induction-allowed ingredients.

The note that you are not following the DANDR version that this board is set up to follow would not take much space up in your signature - just write DANDR 1999 or 1972 or whichever version you use, so people can see you are not trying to follow the same rules the rest of us are!

Otherwise you are really going to get fed up with constant mentions that you are not following the book!! (just my opinion and to save you irritation!!)
