Question LOw Carb Foods-Are They Ok????

HI Guys, I need some honest truths about some low carb foods.I'm talking about low carb bread, flour(baking),divinci syrups, taco shells, taco seasoning, wraps etc.We have a huge low carb grocery store here and I was gonna buy some things. They sell those noodles shitaki(is that right?), and low carb high fibre pasta and high fibre breads etc.Are these ok to buy?I know about the FrankenFoods, but I'm not interested in the candies or chips etc.Just like flour to bake cheese bread with and syrups to make the odd desert when we have company or I go somewhere for dinner.Any advice on this would be great, I really dont want to go down that path if it will lead to disappoinment.I bought the atkins receipe book put out by his wife and there are alot of receipes that call for those kinds of things, of course no brands, just low carb flour, wraps etc.

I've only tried low carb bread, and some low carb tortilla wraps from Walmart. And they just caused me to stall.

I've never been one to trust them, but I thought I'd give them a go. I wasn't particularly impressed. But I started this way of eating with the intention of changing my life around. And I left all those types of food behind. There's no room for them in my new lifestyle

Oh wait, I lied! When I first started Atkins, I tried the bake mix. Must be the nastiest stuff I've EVER smelled/tasted/seen in my life!

And Russell Stover's chocolates. Not for everyday use, of course, but sometimes, when I'm at a stall, I'll have a few and they get things moving again

Diva - you will have to check the ingredients of each of those 'low carb' foods to make sure they are legal for whatever phase of Atkins you are in.

So I imagine most of them would not be induction-legal but some of them will be allowed depending on which rung of OWL their ingredients are on.

For example most lowcarb breads would not be induction foods but if they contain soy flour might be allowed on the legume rung.

I like SF davinci syrups they are sweetened with splenda. I don't lose weight very fast or well when eating any low carb bread or tortillas...when I get close to goal I will add a small amount daily as premaintance because I hope to be able to eat those during maintance.

I like SF pickle relish for adding to tuna salad, I like carb countdown milk but I like cream better in coffee I think. I have used Carbquick bake mix and its not bad tasting but it is another item that should be a premaintance/maintance food.

I found some SF BBQ sauce made by KC masterpeice called classic blend that is sweetened with splenda and no sugar alcohols.

I have enjoyed some protein powers for shakes made in blender with a little cream, water and ice. i like Keto orange, tastes like cream scicle, a vanilla whey protein power is used in recipes often and i use designer protein brand but I really use this very slowly so i haven't tried many other kinds.

I HATE atkins bake mix and shake mix...the taste is awful so try another brand if you are looking for a shake mix for in the morning

I guess my point is I have tried alot of "low carb specialty items" and I like a lot of them but many should be premaintance/maintance foods and i don't lose well/or at all while using them...so I am avoiding all except the SF relish, SF davinci syrups, carb countdown milk, sf BBQ sauce on occasion and Protein powder/shake mix occasionally. until premaintance

I agree with Elizellen, watch the ingredients and make sure you don't have them until the appropriate rung. Not all low carb products are horrible. I find s/f ketchup (presidents choice makes a great one) is just like the original. And daVinci syrups are great. There is a new l/c flour product called carbolose which is supposed to be excellent (not till the grains rung though). I don't mind atkins bake mix, though many people are sensitive to the taste of soy and it really stands out to them. to each his own. I like the low carb tortillas as well.

There is no reason why you can't try these products when you get to the appropriate rungs for them, and see how they affect your weight loss. If they don't bother you you can enjoy the in moderation, if they do, then they will have to wait until you are in maintainence.
