| Alot of people in my family have done the atkins thing and lost weight so noone says anything bad. Personally...I would give them a copy of the book to read OR just ignore it. |

| If you tell them you are on a diet that mainly consists of whole foods and avoiding processed foods they will praise you to the heavens. When you break it down that is what Atkins is all about anyways. They only know what the media hype has reported. Raheemah, You gotta do what works for you! Jack W. | I used to all the time. I never backed down, but I never shoved it in their face either. I knew in time my results would speak for themselves. Just tell them, you'll get your blood work checked in 6 months, and if there is reason for concern, you'll take care of it then. Until then, respect your choice to better yourself by this method. Who knows after they see the truth as demonstrated by your success and healthy appearance they'll change their minds.

| Raheemah, I suspect it will not always be this way because more and more research is proving the diet works so soon you'll not have to constantly defend your choice. I know what you mean. Other people can be difficult when they are not well informed and the press sure doesn't do very well in the Atkins department... |

| If Atkins is so bad, why have all my numbers improved? Why have I lost 100 lbs and feel tons better with lots more energy? Why am I drinking water and eating lots of veggies? Why has it changed my life so dramaticallly? The problem is often that people do not understand Atkins or have heard horror stories of people who have done Atkins wrong. Many more studies are showing nowadays that "low fat" diets are worse for your health, unfortunately, this doesn't get reported all that often because it's been the defacto standard for nearly 30 years. If it's the best diet to reduce your cholesterol and chance of heart disease, why is obesity increasing and heart issues increasing especially among younger people every year? I've been doing alot of reading and research on this lately and the more I find out, the more angry I become at all the mis-information that has been spread over the last 30 years. Just challenge those people and ask how many veggies they eat each day? How many caloriies? How much water? I guarentee, you will win, hands down, both then and in the long run.

| A long time ago, many people thought the world was flat. Well.. regardless of what they believed, the facts didn't change. The world is round! YAY! And, this diet is not bad for you. Same thing. Ignore them, do what you know you need to do, and let the results speak for themselves.

| I did a pre-emptive strike. I converted my parents, now they are on Atkins! My dad says as far as he is concerned it's a WOL! They were impressed by my Weight Loss and I bought Them the book. All these people that blame childhood obesity on the parents, well all the need is that little kid to grove up, discover Atkins, and change the parents! ![]() I think most people are just glas that I am doing something that works.

| Just last week when I started, my husband was telling me how dangerous all the fat is to my health. When the pounds started falling off he became interested. Now he's following along with me and he himself has dropped pounds fast. I made him a believer! Don't listen to anyone but your doctor. If your doctor tells you to get off Atkins for your health--then that's the one person to believe. Everyone else is just misinformed.
