Default Dealing with loose skin (if you're a man!)

This just dawned on me today (after realizing I lost 30 lbs).

If you're a guy and have a bit of loose skin one way to deal with it is just to hit the weights.

If you bulk up a bit you'll look and feel great and your loose skin will become a bit tight and you'll look more muscular.

The girls won't complain of course and the loose skin will vanish.

At least this is my current plan

Default Re: Dealing with loose skin (if you're a man!)

I've lost 20 lbs and haven't yet experienced any loose skin problems. I've read that there are two factors that determine how skin will adjust after weight loss:

1) The rate at which the weight was gained
2) The amount of time that you've been overweight

Skin is extremely elastic, so even if you're EXTREMELY OBESE and drop a huge amount of weight over a reasonable amount of time, most of it will gradually contract back to it's original size...well, close to it anyway.

Putting on muscle is a good temporary plan. But there are some places that your going to have loose skin and can't compensate by beefing up. The stomach, butt and thighs area come to mind. And when you stopped pumping all of that iron, your arms will be disproportionately flabby to the rest of your body. It might be a better idea to start with the extensive weight training AFTER you've given your sking some time to adjust. Remember, the longer it's been stretched out, the longer it will take to "fix" itself when the frame it envolopes becomes smaller.
