Default So much water!!!!

I am having water trouble.

At 330 pounds I know I am supposed to be drinking an enormous amount of it BUT....

1 My body simply doesn't want to drink that much

2 When I force myself to glug it down I feel peculiar - almost intoxicated by water

3 When I am in other people's premises they give me a tiny glass and I have to keep asking for it to be refilled and they think I am very strange

4 There is not always a public toilet when I am out and about. This is a massive problem when on a long car drive. We really need to get to our destination and cannot be on the look out for a service station every half hour.

5 When I am in other people's premises I am embarrassed at the number of times I need the toilet (they think I am ill)

6 I don't drink much after 9pm but still I get up several times in the night to urinate and I am scared that one day I will be in such a deep sleep I will wet the bed!!!

How do others cope with this? Do the *really* big people on Atkins truly drink their allocated amount of water - honestly? Are they in and out of the loo all day? Are they treated as freaks by those around them?

I feel such a freak when in the company of others. The people I interact with, social and business, never seem to drink any water at all. I hate feeling and seeming like a freak and going to the loo so much!

Any tips?

It is a lot of water! I think however much you have to lose it can get hard to get it all down. I have 10-15 left to lose and continue to drink the original amount of ounces.

I found a delicious flavored water I suppliment with. It's AquaCal, made by Meridian. It doesn't taste so much like flavored water as the nectar of whatever fruit flavor you choose, my hands down favorite is Peach Mango. It has no carbs, sugars or sodium but it does have Aspartame so if you are sensitive to that it's a bust. It has calcium as well as some Vitamin C and potassium. I drink a bottle or two every day to have some flavor for a change, stay in ketosis and continue to lose 1/2 - 1 lb per day.

The need to pee constantly is embarrassing!!! My walking buddy at work is convinced I have a bladder the size of a grape because I can't get thru our mile walks without stopping at the ladies room AGAIN.

Regardless of whether anyone is trying to lose weight or not drinking a lot of water is healthy. My 65 lb 11 yr old drinks lots of it. By drinking water wherever you go you are only setting a good example.

Hang in there Darlin'. The benefits far outweigh the inconveniences.

Default Re: So much water!!!!

Frustrated,

Basically, it's going to boil down to how badly you want this.

For me, I don't care what other people think about how much I drink or how many times I go to the bathroom. If I truly were sick, would anyone have a problem with it??? No. And, I feel that being overweight is pretty much being sick--if you aren't already, you sure as heck will be someday....

The water is not an option. You MUST have it, here are some reasons I always have to tell myself:
1) flush the fat out of your body. I get excited every time I go, because there goes some more fat down the toilet.
2) Keeps your intestines hydrated...if you don't drink enough, you WILL get constipated. Enough said.
3) Keeps your muscles hydrated...if you don't drink enough, you WILL get some horrific cramps in your legs and feet....NOT FUN in the middle of the night.
4) Keeps your skin hydrated...if you don't drink enough, you will lose the elasticity in your skin....and if your skin is not hydrated and you lose, ewwww!
5) Chapped lips...because of the dehydration--not getting enough water--I've gotten chapped lips...and the only thing that fixes it--not lip balm, water!

I bought a jug that holds 74 oz, and I take my water with me. I always know where the bathroom is too. You are doing this for YOU, not for anyone else...I wouldn't worry about what others think.

The more water you drink, the more your body will crave. So, keep drinking.

Talking Re: So much water!!!!

Way to make the point clear, ValidRouge! Frustrated, it gets easier as people get used to seeing you carrying water with you everywhere. If they get used to the fact your drinking a lot of water, when you gotta go, they shouldn't be surprised. A couple of additional things you can do are drink water from the sink every time you use a bathroom (carry a collapsible cup) and learn how to "go" in the boonies if there's no bathroom around (carry paper with you at all times).

My friends and family are used to me carrying my bottle around with me at all times now.
And in general I notice many more people with bottles at the ready out and about in town nowadays.
I just make a joke about the frequent loo trips in company - saying 'it must be all the water I drink', and DH is well trained enough to ask 'do you want a loo-stop?' as we pass every service station!!
Also I do know which shops in town have 'customer loos' too
Once I started to lose appreciable excess poundage it didnt seem to matter to me what others thought anyway.

yep and with time your body will adjust somewhat and you won't have to get up to pee so often.

read the FAQ on why we need water to lose weight and you will have bno trouble chugging it down. remeber ketones flushed are fat molecules not used as energy so more from storage got to get removed.

I drink 5-6 liters a day. People are used to seeing me with my water bottle. My sweetie always goes to the fridge and gets me a fresh bottle to take to bed at night even. I hear comments like "you're so good drinking your water" "its really good for you"

When I first started Atkins, I was running to the loo constantly! Now that I've been doing this for a few months, I really only go every few hours. I do not drink anything after 8 p.m. I find that helps me to sleep through the night!

You'll get there - your body will adjust! Be patient!

It's true. Your body will adjust. As Stacy says, I also try not to drink after 8:00 or 9:00 at the latest because otherwise I will wake up having to go.

Also, people around you will adjust. At work everyone is used to seeing me fill up my water jug a few times a day. Sometimes they comment about how good I am to drink so much water. We were at a conference a few months ago and I find there is never enough water to suit me at these things. So when a young man came by to deposit a jug of water at our table, I asked him if we could have another one as well. My coworkers laughed and said the second one could be for me and, true to their word, they didn't drink any from my jug. The 7 of them didn't even finish one jug but I finished mine. Before lunch. Now it ticks me off if people try to get between me and my water. Oh, and I also use a super big glass at home and if people try giving me thimbles of water at their house, I always ask (politely of course) if they have something bigger cuz I'm really thirsty. Most people are happy to oblige their guests.

I wonder what a "boonie" is.
I wonder what a collapsible cup is.
I wonder if it's ok to drink water from a bathroom tap.

That's me - all a-wondering today!
