Default is almost 4 weeks into induction to long ?

Hi to everyone,
I hope this does not post twice I think I made a booboo earlier and didnt post. I started atkins may 22nd 2006 starting weight of 237 and as of today I weigh 215, I have not deviated , I havent been eating the veggies like I should though. I also re-read induction and discovered I have been drinking my water with crystal light and it contains aspertain which is a nono but hasent stopped the lose. I tickled with the lose but can a person continue longer than 2 weeks ?

I believe the Akins book says you can, if you have alot to lose, go up to six months on Induction but I think its a good idea to move to OWL's first rung which is more veggies. That's what the experts here tell me. Aspartame isn't good for you. How about making your own ice tea with splenda? Congratulations on your huge weight loss! I'm jealous!

Make sure you get your 3 cups of veggies in (the highest quality and fiber content possible) and you can extend induction.
However, introducing more veggies/low glycemic fruit helps you lose. High fiber veggies have a thermogenic affect as well, they keep you fuller, act as your intestinal wash cloth whcih you need as a carnivore! The bi-product of the meat will sit in your intestines and rot. Not a pretty picture.

I agree with Fawn. The veggies are extremely important on this diet. Yeah, yeah, I know you've heard the "Atkins is all meat" thing (we've all heard that big myth). But they are very important.

Dr. Atkins said you could stay on Induction longer than the minimum 14 days. He particularly said that the people with metabolic imbalances would benefit the most from doing this because Induction will help correct those imbalances. So how do you know if you have an imbalance? Look at the metabolic resistance chapter in the book and see if you qualify for those metabolic imbalances. Also check your 14 day results with the metabolic resistance charts in the book. That will give you an idea of your degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss and it will give you an idea of how to proceed with your Atkins.

Finally, this isn't in the book, but it's been the experience by ADBB members that between the 3rd and 6th week of being on this diet, their weight loss slows or stops completely, then it resumes. In a video presentation, Dr. Atkins explained this pause as your body re-adjusting its water content, since you lose water and fat during the initial part of any diet.

If you're happy and comfortable on it, then stay on it.
I was on induction, perfectly happy for 3 months last year.

Congrats on your losses! I stayed on induction for four or five months before moving to OWL... can't remember the timing exactly. I was happy on induction...but even happier doing OWL. You still lose and the extra choices are welcome after a long induction. If I were to do Atkins from scratch I'd move to OWL much sooner...but not because induction is bad for you. As long as you take your supplements and drink your water you can stay on it for quite some time. Just don't be afraid to make the move to OWL when the time comes.

I found that when I added veggies and fruits I lost faster. Each person has their own metabolic resistance though.

I actually started on the same day as you did Valerie and I have lost 22 lbs as well. I am currently still on induction...but I have had a few cheats here and there. *bad situations, best decisions possible and living with a four year old..LOL*

I'm not proud of those cheats but I've learned to suck it up and accept it. Anyway...I was planning on starting OWL rung 1 on Monday....but as I planned out the menu for the next two days....it didn't differ from my induction menu at all.....I just cant seem to work more veggies in.......

From what I've seen and been told by the experts on here...it's alright to stay on induction longer but its also a healthy choice to move on to OWL. I think it's up to each individual person and what works best for them.

Happy Atkinsing and congratulations!!!!!

Yes as has been already said you can certainly spend more than 14 days on Induction. For most the bulk of the weight loss experience should be spent slowly progressing through OWL. For some or those with lots to lose (like me) can spend a long time on Induction (I spent over a year). One of Induction's main goal is to get your hunger under control through stabilizes your blood glucose. Is your hunger under control? Are you bored with the menu choices? If so, start looking at OWL soon, but if not, you can certainly stay as long as you need to achieve that goal.
