Question Salsa or cheese?

Okay here is the deal I love cheese but I'm affraid of using it to much on induction. I love salsa and usually buy Sam's Choice salsa from wal-mart (I know making your own is best but everytime I try to do tomato recipies it comes out horrible! Plus it's more convenient and cheaper!) I was wondering if I use salsa in place of my cheese in the morning for my eggs would be better? I tend to over due with adding stuff to poultry because the raw taste makes me gag, but it's a meat that works the best with me and my budget. So I ask would I be making a healthier choice adding salsa or cheese. Or would it be the same? Also how does salsa figure into daily veggie allowence?

Sam's choice Salsa Ingredients:
Tomato Puree(Water and Tomato Paste), tomatoes, fresh onions, fresh green bell peppers, vinigar, salt jalapeno peppers, garlic powder, onion powder, and jalapeno powder. Total Carbs:2g dietary fiber:<1g Sugars:1g

Many people say they have stalled on eating cheese and I'd really like some tasty affordable options just in case. I will probably be on induction for awhile!

Cheese is limited to 3-4 ounces during Induction. So if you want, you can restrict your portion sizes by weighing the cheese and only eating the allotted portions.

Salsa counts toward your vegetable totals. Tomatoes and onions according to DANDR 2002, are on the "other vegetable" list and are limited to 1 cup.

The only caution I have if you want to sub salsa for cheese is to make sure your meal remains high fat. Cheese is a high fat food. Salsa isn't, typically. So plug your meal into fitday.com and see what it is.

I don't eat more than 4oz. of cheese a day if even that I was just wondering what everyone thought about salsa instead of cheese. I know many people have said they stall while eating cheese everyday and I was looking for a good sub. just incase.

How exactly would you subtract the veggies from a tbsp? Not all of it is veggies so as stupid as question this sounds do you subtract 1 tbsp from veggies?

I am very strictly doing this plan of induction and don't want to make a no-no. One little slip can cause a huge landslide and so I have to remain intolerant. I really love the plan and food so it's okay I just want to get the best bang for my buck carb. wise so to speak!

Thanks for the help!

I wouldnt' think its an equal "substitute". Cheese is a fat and veggies are veggies. You need to eat the required amount of veggies per day regardless of whether or not you eat cheese. Cheese, you can either eat it or not, its up to you.

Honestly, even though there are 16 tbsp in a cup, I think that I would count that salsa as 1/4 cup (4 tbsp) or 1/8 cup (2 tbsp) of your veggies per tbsp, simply because when tomatoes get pureed down and cooked, they get very dense and are not quite the same as regular veggies.

I LOVE salsa. I totally understand where you are coming from.

Everybody has a different opinion on how to figure out these things, but that's just personally what I would do.

Good luck with this way of eating!

If you were making the salsa yourself it would be easy to know how much of your veggie allowance was in one tablespoon, as you could add up all the ingredients work out how much the recipe made and divide by the number of servings to get your 'per serving' carb count.

Maybe if you can look at a salsa recipe it might be possible to work out how many cups of veggies make one cup of salsa and divide by 16 to get an 'average' tablespoon count?

For increasing fat intake, you could introduce full fat mayo to your diet?

I love this WOE. All the other diets I ever tried claimed fat was the enemy. And on all those other diets I failed and gained more weight!
