Canned meat (tuna, chicken, turkey) and canned veg.

I've seen tuna and chicken in those hermetically sealed packets so that might be more space-saving for you.

You might want to go to a camping, sporting goods or military surplus store for dehydrated or freeze-dried veg and fruit(if fruit is acceptable for your stage of Atkins). On occasion I can find freeze-dried strawberries and raspberries in my supermarket. Which reminds me....you might want to look at the baby food aisle of the supermarket. Gerber has 3 freeze-dried products: apple-strawberry, corn and something else. They come in re-sealable packets and don't taste bad at all. But of course, using the Gerber products will depend on your phase of the Diet, as will including nuts.

i would check out recipes for flax muffins, they would travel well, i usually bring them when i travel. also maybe some celery sticks and a small container with s/f p. butter. or Jicama i think would keep fairly well without refridgeration (someone correct me if i'm wrong). Those tuna packs megs mentioned would be great. Nuts are also great for travelling. As is beef jerky, but check the carb counts.

I would say if you are really finding it hard to find enough for three days that dont require refridg. , I would maybe add some owl foods such as fruits/veggies, from the rungs that you haven't reached yet, I still think that's better than a cheat. ie: apples, nuts (if you're not there yet) etc. and go back to whatever phase you are in when you get home. I would just find the lower carb ones. I'm a believer that none of us became over weight by eating too many fruits and veggies.

And since you're white water rafting there will be alot of exercise involved i'm sure!

Have fun!

I agree with Sadie. Just make sure all of your foods are whole natural foods and don't worry about which rung you are on. Nuts and seeds are good. I make my own trail mix with:
sunflower seeds (roastsed and salted)
walnuts (raw)
almonds (lightly salted)
pumpkin seeds
raw shaved coconut
dried cranberries
dried blueberries both organic natural no sugar added.
Do you have a trader joes? I buy the dehydrated apple rings (no sulfites no sugar) just apples
Have fun and good luck!

As you might guess from my user name, I frequent the great outdoors a lot. I wish I could come with you!!!! I would (as usual when I go roughing it)
1. Pack lightweight (no can opener required) foods
2. Pack lots of water (it runs out fast out there)
3. Wear what I pack in (fanny pack, back pack, canvas shoulder bags)

You can have cold foods for the 1st day (or more) by freezing some food/water. Pack it with perishables that don't freeze well, and wrap them in packed clothes as extra insulation. For the rest of the food, dried foods like jerky and porkskins, other things posted here earlier, if allowed, are good. If there will be fresh water where you stop over, take dry ingredients for soup or flavored water. Pull-top cans of vienna sausage, devilled ham, corned beef etc are good. Packets of Mayo, salt, pepper & sweetener (if you use it) from a fast food place is a must as you need veggies! Celery, peppers & onions do pretty well unrefrigerated.

The 1st part of the trip, eat the unfrozen stuff. The frozen food will be thawing, and can be eaten next. It may even have helped keep you cool! Have fun!

My husband and I went on a 1 day trip last year and they provided the meals. I was actually able to make a meal out of what they packed. There was alot I couldn't have, but I did have some turkey slices, pickles, celery, and some water. Maybe they could tell you ahead of time what the meals are.

Have fun rafting. We had the time of our lives. It was scary at first and exhausting, but by the end of the trip I didn't want it to end. You reminded me that I still need to get our picture framed from the trip.

The trip sounds great! My DH did a 3 day trip on the Snake River and absolutely loved it!!

About the food, have you contacted the guides or those providing the food? They may be able to include other options for special needs diets (diabetics for example).

Have fun!
