Angry I fell off yesterday

I've been on vacation for the last week...and ate less than 20 carbs a day (my keto stix always turned purple) ...I was so proud of myself. While my family munched on chips and dip and and all the vacation goodies, I ate Macadamia Nuts, and beef jerky and an occasional spoon of peanut butter - it wasn't so bad as I was looking forward to losing a couple of pounds.

Got home Saturday night and realized the scale hadn't moved! I was so mad. I decided to eat some carbs on Sunday to try to jump start the weight loss and as far as blood glucose goes, what is one day of high readings going to do anyway?! So, I had a a big mac meal for lunch, KFC for supper and some choclates for a snack. It was not as fun as I had imagined...I got full really fast and my stomach hurt all night. My choices were not the greatest, but live and learn.

Now I'm back on, eating pumpkin seeds at my desk...hoping that I will be able to lose more weight. I've been loyal, non cheating for a month before my splurge and only lost 5 lbs. on induction. Atkins is my life now, so there isn't really any alternative if I don't lose the weight...but I really really want to. I know I said that I was doing Atkins for my health so I wouldn't have to go on insulin, but it would be nice to get the added benifit of weight loss. It seems I'm stuck at 170 size 10 jean. I'm going on vacation again next Tuesday. Im going to Miami with my Husband to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary, and I plan NOT to cheat at all...it's so hot down there that I won't be hungry anyway.

Any ideas as to how I can kick start my metabolism? I work with a trainer doing weights 2 times a week and I do about an hour of cardio 3-4 times a week, not including daily walks of about 2 miles. Help....Thanks.

*giggles at your high carb choices* Sounds like what I'd go for too!

I'm sorry that the scales aren't moving fast for you. I'm guessing if you only lost 5lbs on Induction then you have a high metabolism. There might be some foods that you can/cant eat due to this. I've got a low metabolism so I dont know what to suggest.

I cant believe that with the amount of exercise you're doing that you're not losing more weight.

I hope that someone can point you in the right direction xxx

I was going to ask the same thing about where you are on the rungs? If you not followed the rungs and have added other foods in (like nuts, peanut butter, etc.), then I would back up and do induction again.

Good luck!

I've been on induction since the end of June. I've thought about moving up but I never lost the amount of weight on induction that I wanted to, so I just continued on induction. I'm afraid to go to the next level since I've hardly lost any weight...even in ketosis? Could it be that I'm not eating enough?

My plan on this was to lose enough weight (20 lbs) on induction be it 2 weeks or two months and then move up to more carbs, I thought that getting the weight off would help with the blood sugar. I only want to lose 35-40 pounds (otherwise my hubby would be mad). I do have to take Metformin for my blood sugar and wondering if that is inhibiting me from losing?

Also, I got some bad news from my OB/GYN, possible cancer (I'll find out for sure on the 29)...but since when has cancer made someone fat?! I'm taking it lightly because why worry about something that might not even be. Unfortunately I was on the 5 year plan as far as my physicals so it could be slightly more progressed than the average woman on the annual plan. Anyway, sorry to bore you with that info., I just don't know what is going on.

Thanks for your help.

Jana

Jana,

Sorry to hear about your scary news. I hope it was just a false scare with the doc!

As to your induction diet, I would be sure that you are diligently counting your carbs. Keep a journal and count every one. For starters, just from what you said in your first post, macadamia nuts and peanut butter are not on the allowed list for induction. As for the beef jerky, be careful that it doesn't have added sugar for its flavor.

Not counting accurately is something that has really caused a problem with my weight loss efforts. Do you have the book? If so, I would suggest that you re-read the chapters on induction. I just did this myself this past weekend and was really reminded of a few important pointers. If you do not have the book, I would suggest buying it ASAP. You can buy the paperback anywhere for $8 and you can get it used (ebay or resale shops) for as low as fifty cents. It really helps to keep it handy.

I would definitely post your average daily menu and get some tidbits of advice from the ADBBers. They are all a great help!

Good luck!!!

I'm with the group that says that doesn't sound like induction. Are you drinking your water to help flush out everything?

I'm sorry to hear about the scare. It's probably nothing.... *keeps fingers crossed for you*

Thanks everyone, I guess now that I think about it even though the keto stix are turning purple doesn't mean I have a ticket to eat. I really got complacent as far as induction goes, I guess my thinking was purple stick means I'm ok. NOT. I plan to re-read the induction part and use the menu in the book. I did however borrow some really fantastic low carb cook books from my aunt and am excited to use them...after my induction. My youngest loves eggs so he won't be too disapointed in our new menu. Thanks for your help and inspiration!
