Question A little nausea and some dizziness...

I've noticed several times in the past couple of weeks I've been nauseous in the mornings (NO, it's not THAT!!). Today I actually threw up -- well, my body tried to, but I had nothing in my stomach. Other days I've just felt quesy, but it passed after a few minutes. Also this morning, I felt really dizzy. I think I just got up out of bed too fast -- but it has happened a couple of times before (only since Atkins), not just in the mornings. It has felt like what I imainge vertigo might feel like. But, I don't have that as far as I know.

I'm not taking my vitamins on an empty stomach, which I know could be a cause. (Sometimes I don't take them at all, in fact -- could that be it?) Neither of these things usually ever happen to me. Anyone experience anything similar? Could this somehow be related to my new WOE, and if so, any suggestions?

Thanks much.

any other symptoms during the day?

low blood sugar can cause that. maybe you need a snack in the evening or something right as you wake up.

Hello,
This is my first time on the forum, as I have experienced the same symptoms as you and wanted to see if I was the only one - apparently not!

A few years ago, I successfully did the Atkins for quite sometime, with some days feeling a bit nauseas, but nothin too serious.

Now, every time that I have tried to do it, after about two days, I wake up shaking, feeling like I am going to faint/die/be sick!! The first time it happened, my instinct was to run to the fridge and eat ice cream, which stopped the shaking almost immediately. This morning, after two days of starting the Atkins, I woke up feeling awful, and decided that my body just doesnt like this diet... I struggled to get to the kitchen and made myself a bowl of porridge with a lot of honey, and once again, the shaking stopped almost immediately.

One time, I was walking home from work, and I started feeling very dizzy, and when I tried to speak, I couldnt because my tongue wasnt numb, and was not working. I found it very frightening, and went to my GP the next morning, who warned me to stay off the diet, because I NEVER have symptoms like that when I eat normally.

I am quite disappointed, because I know the diet does work, however, it really does not seem to agree with my body. I don't think the nausea, dizziness and shaking is worth it.

2big is probably right... I think mine is low blood sugar. (No, 2big, no other symptoms I can think of...) I usually don't eat anything after about 7:30 p.m. And with no carbs to hold me until morning, I think I might just need something more (non-carb, of course) in my system. I'm going to try eating something before bed. Come to think of it, Wednesday night my dinner was pretty low fat -- baked chicken breast and a little creamed spinach. And I didn't eat much of it. The worst I've ever felt it was yesterday (Thurs) morning. I felt dizzy when I work up, but then ended up exercising. Felt okay through that, but after I exercised, I layed down after my cool-down, and that's when the room started swimming and I had to run for the bathroom. I think I just didn't have enough stubstance sticking with me til morning.

Momeg -- For you, though, I bet it's "induction flu." When you first start this way of eating, your body goes through carb withdrawls. While you get everything out of your system, you can feel a bit sluggish, nauseous, etc. If you are willing/able to put up with that for a few days, I promise it will pass and you'll feel SO much better. That said, one thing you might want to try is doing what 2big recommended for me: eat something (something legal!) as a snack after dinner and/or first thing in the morning, so that you don't let your blood sugar get too low. Sounds like your body just might be more reactive to low blood sugar than some others might be.

I believe if you go to the 14-day induction forum, you'll find some posts on the Induction Flu. If they aren't there on the first page, click on "search this thread" and I know you'll find them for sure.

Take care, and best of luck. Hope you stick with it -- you won't be sorry!
