Default Question Regarding "sugar" in bacon...

i'm confused, i bought turkey bacon from trader joes (no nitrates etc...) and on the nutrution label it reads "no sugar and no carbs" but in the ingredient list it reads "sugar." when avoiding sugar which list are we supposed to go by? i thought i got lucky when i bought this bacon, but now i'm having second thoughts about it.

yesi

Default Re: Question Regarding "sugar" in bacon...

Due to the wacky food labelling laws in the US, manufacturers by law can call a product "no sugar" or label it "0 grams" sugar if it contains less that 0.5 grams per serving.

This means that for the serving size listed on the package, you might be able to count it as 0 carbs. But if you eat more than the listed serving size, you'll have to start counting those 'undeclared' carbs.

I buy Primrose sugar-free bacon. No sugar listed in the ingredients at all. Maybe you can find it there?

Default Re: Question Regarding "sugar" in bacon...

the sugar in the bacon ingredients is part of the curing agent and was placed on the outside of the bacon as a whole piece of meat to draw out the water by osmosis. there is very little sugar on the edges of your bacon but if you are sensitive trim it off

no sugar and one carb per slices??? what did they add instead that has carbs. bacon should be almost carb free in the natural state.

well for it to say 1 carb per slices you really got between 1-1.499999 carbs there so look hard at those ingredients cause that is a heck of a lot of carbs for a slice of plain bacon. is it pepper crusted?
