Lightbulb Can anyone relate?

So, I'm having an interesting situation here. I'm dealing with mentally wanting to eat more than i should. I get signals that I'm full, but part of me just wants to keep going bc i like the taste and sensation... anyone hear me on this? I'm like, put the fork down! (in head). And my eyes and mouth are like (that looks so good you could finish that!)

Also, I think I give myself my own cravings? Can that be possible? I know that last night, after dinner... I felt satisfied and content. Two hours went by and I started feeling sad and lonely (my committed relationship just ended. ). And I was thinking about sweets... like legal sweets... and induction has pretty much kicked all sweet craving/wanting to the CURB. Any advice on how to mentally switch this pattern... other than not giving in (which im following)... any affirmations I could use?

Cheers!
Have a lovely day
-Puma

Puma, I TOTALLY hear you about eating more legal food than I should. I have problems with this....it tastes and smells so good...I love the way it feels in my mouth (texture) and the taste and everything. Most of the time it has little to do with actual hunger. I don't know what the solution to it is...except to just stop....but I do feel your pain.

I have that problem too sometimes, but something that really helps me is eating on smaller plates--that way it looks like I've eaten more than I really have and I'm not tempted to eat more or get another serving.

I also get that sensation of wanting more when the food taste is in my mouth--my mouth wants more, but my stomach doesn't...or my mouth wants a contrasting flavor to counteract what I've just eaten (salty to sweet, etc.). What I do in this case is have a nice cold glass of water, (it sort of "rinses" the taste out) or I just go brush my teeth/use mouthwash. And I tell myself that just because there's more food there, doesn't mean I have to eat it--I can save it and have it tomorrow!

I don't know what else to tell ya...except that when you're down or feel like eating to make your spirits rise, do something else, like read a book, go for a walk, watch TV. It'll get your mind off food.

I posted this in another thread:

1. Eat slowly.
2. Eat smallish bites of food. Take no more than 1/2 inch of food on your fork/spoon.
3. Put your fork/knife/spoon down after it conveys the food to your mouth. Keep both hands flat on the table while you are chewing. Do not lift up any eating utensils until you've swallowed.
3. Chew the food thoroughly and swallow it completely before taking another bite. This will allow you to fully taste the food.
4. Pause between bites. Count 5 seconds between bites. You know, one-one thousand, two- one thousand, etc.
5. Only put 1 serving of each food on your plate at a time. So for your breakfast, you should only put 1 egg, 1 sausage, 1 or 2 pork sausage links. After you have finished that amount. Ask yourself, do you still feel hungry (ie, is your stomach growling like you haven't eaten anything in 3 days). If not, put the remaining food in the fridge and step away from the table. If you are are still hungry, serve yourself another serving of the food. Eat 1/2 of that and ask yourself are you still hungry. If not, put the remaining food in the fridge and leave. Continue re-evaluating yourself. And always know that if you are hungry between meals you can eat.

By the way, you might want to reconsider feeding your sweet tooth "legal" sweets. About 2 years ago, we had a member with a 10 pound weight loss goal. She got a hold of an Induction legal sweet. And ate it daily. She used to post about how good this sweet tasted, about how many servings she would eat daily and worst of all, she used to encourage other newbies to make and eat this sweet. Alot of newbies who followed her advise, fell off the plan. She made it to goal....about 9 months later.

When I was a newbie, the mods and old-timers used to advise everyone to kill their sweet tooth by starving it because the more it was fed, the more it wanted.

Oh honey, I've been there, done that, and bought the T-shirt. Not2late has given you some great advice.

One thing I'd like to add is that it does get easier if you work on it. It took me months to retrain myself away from that.

Good luck to you!

I know how you feel too. I am an emotional eater also.

This is the time to retrain ourselves and learn new habits. Instead of turning to eating, try to make a different habit...like reading, a craft, exercising or doing something that you keep putting off but you know it needs to be done. After a while we can relearn these habits and quit putting food in the center of our lives.

I'm in this with you and trying to retrain myself!

We can do this!

Some things that will help when you want to eat and know you aren't hungry is:

Write out some 'things' to do instead of eating.
1) drink water - wait 10 minutes and see if the craving stops. You might be thirsty and mistaking it for hunger
2) do some exercises for 10-15 minutes
3) brush your teeth. This works for me.
4) Call a friend or come onto the ADBB and read. You might just be experiencing boredom.
5) Write out your feelings in a journal and write down what you might have eaten that is causing cravings. If you see a pattern, avoid the food that seems to make you feel like this
6) Look at some pictures in magazines of clothes you want to be able to wear when you are thinner. Look at some photos of yourself at a thinner time in your life and write out some motivational phrases that you can say to yourself that will keep you motivated to reach your goal.
7) go for a walk. This will put your mind in an positive stage and you won't feel the food you are craving is that important.
Read some motivational books, listen to a motivational tape or just write out your goals and plan how you are going to reach them.

These things work for me. I hope they help.

Default Re: Can anyone relate?

that happens to me too!!!, sometimes it helps to eat really slow, or save half of the meal for 2 hours later.

The book recommends to have a hot soup before your meal.

I think many of us have the same problem that is why we are on the diet. I am still dealing with that after more than two years of the diet. I guess I'll deal with that all my life!

Girlfriend i hear you completely!!! My problem is i live alone and i usually end up making enough for a family when i cook because i hate cooking, so i am trying to divide it up, but if it tastes really good, i will have my dinner and then a couple hours later when i know its only emotional, i have to fight myself NOT to go get another serving and eat it.

Some of the things i do is:
1. Take my 2 liter of water and hug it lol and drink it and hug it and drink it.

2. Look at my screen saver of fat me and then look at the cut out pictures of clothes i sooo want to buy.

3. Write down a pros and cons list of IF i eat it

4. Call someone anyone lol and make them talk to me lol.

5. Come here and read success stories and look at befores and after pics.

6. hug my water bottle some more lol. Seriously i know it sounds silly but its a 2 liter and i know if i sit there and hug it i won't go get the food lol. Its a phychological thing with me lol.

But i do hear you, its my hardest struggle figuring out if i am actually still hungry or if its habit of knowing i am not eating as much as i use too and shouldn't. If i don't put it away right away i will walk in the kitchen and snack a spoon ful here and there. If i put it away and wash all the dishes and stuff fast lol i don't want to clean up the mess of heating up stuff and then washing it again.

You are NOT alone in this.
