| Alcohol isn't allowed during induction. The lower carb ones... hard liquor like bacardi rum, vodka, are preffered over light beers from what I've read. You can have alcohol at your discression at maintance i know... sooner than that I'm not sure. |

| Depends upon which phase of Atkins you are currently in. During the Induction phase, alcohol is not allowed because it interferes with your fat burning. Your body will metabolize alcohol before it metabolizes fat, protein or carbs. So while your bod is busy metabolizing those two beers, the fat, protein and carbs are being converted into fat. Granted there will be people who will say they drank like a fish during Induction, remained in ketosis and lost weight. The remaining in ketosis thing is rather deceptive because one of the by-products of alcohol metabolism is chemically similar to a ketone and it's possible to get a false positive on the ketostix as a result of that similarity. During the On-Going Weight Loss phase, alcohol can be re-introduced to your menu.

| Alcohol is rung 5 in OWL--and it is preferred you stick to hard alcohol, light beer (yuk!) or the occasional glass of wine. Check DANDR for carb counts, or I just usually go to the atkins website www.atkins.com
