Lightbulb It's not the distance, but how you get there...

I watched a show on OPB (Oregon Public Broadcasting) the other night and there were these fantastic active people riding their bikes, blazing trails before them, and they were over 50. It was actually the first decent entertainment we've had all week. lol. Not that watching people over 50 was entertaining by any means, I meant that there's nothing worth watching on regular tv anymore (besides the Biggest Loser ). Honest...that's what I mean

This one gal was talking about how these groups of women get on their bikes and make a difference in themselves. I thought, "That's great!".

Then the woman says these magical words that still ring in my ear, "It's not the distance, but how you get there..." that's all I focused on for the rest of the show because it rang so true to my journey. It's not the distance or the amount of time it takes me to lose the weight I really want to lose, but how I get there.

I've had a lot of people e-mail me about this and so I thought I would share this quote from the show in a more broader spectrum. It's amazing how we can get in a mind frame that we want quick results with Atkins and not stopping to realize the most important part of losing weight is not how fast we can take it off, but how we take it off. It didn't pack on over night, it ain't going to jump off tomorrow all at once.

Amuse yourself and take note of how far you've come and look forward to how you're getting there.

Peace

Great choice of words. You are right about the way we look at it.

That's a great quote Lisa. Thanks for posting it! Actually, it's first cousin to one of my favourites: "It's direction not speed that's important"

Great quote, Lisa. That quote applies to so many things as well. In the end, it is the opposite of the ends justify the means argument because so often the means can't be justified. With dieting if one is so focused getting to goal weight by any means necessary without learning long-term lessons, there's a good chance they'll have that pleasure to do it again.

Hey Lisa! Excellent quote. Much akin to the one in my siggy! It's not the goal, it's the process.

Including SallySeaChange's variation, I think we have some excellent advice going here!

Much love,
Stacy

I love all these great quotes. They're very theraputic when you think you're at the end of you rope....okay, maybe that's just me, one strand from plunging down.

Thanks for sharing your quotes.

Got any more to share?
