| That sounds like the OLD version of DANDR stuff to me. Do you have the revised version Atkins wrote before he died?

| Caffeine certainly isn't recommended, but--like most things--it has different effects on different people. I drank coffee while in the weight loss phases of Atkins and it never caused a problem with me. I would only suggest testing your reaction, though, if you have the self control to fight any possible cravings that might occur if caffeine has an adverse effect on you...it would be terrible for a cup of coffee to be the trigger for a huge carb binge. ~Far la bella figura!

| OK, pulling out my book..... where was that at? What I was reading was for the induction on page 124 and was saing avoid caffeinated beverages....may cause cravings... Anyhow, I used to drink a whole lot more caffeine bevs. than I do now, but had supplements with caffeine & other stimulants from day 1 without trouble. Guess the bottom line with it is as I've seen put elsewhere on ADBB is, "your mileage may vary". So I did have a problem (1200-1600mg /day) but had cut back to a managable 100-200 /day before starting Atkins, roughly the same end result as if you did what you read. |

| I don't really want to drink caffeine. I'm just concerned that here I have this book I'm using as my bible essentially and I thought it basically said no caffeine. Then I see on the website it saying you can have a couple caffeinated beverages a day if you can handle it. I suppose it's the wording in the book that through me off and I read "avoid" as "do not have at all" |

| The website is own by Atkins Nutritionals. They are *not* Dr. Atkins. They've been pushing all that low-carb junk food and garbage hardcore since about the day the good doctor passed away. They've really tried to take the more media-saavy/consumer-warm-fuzzy approach for a long time. They're much more likely to attract new customers if they tell people that they can eat *their* chocolate bars and fudge the rules a bit than to go hard-core. <shrug> Such is capitalism at it's finest.
