| Thanks for thoughts. I guess I'll make some induction-legal stuff and never tell them it's not "real"

| Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Splenda almost killed me. I'm not the only one who has suffered it's ill side effects. The FDA cleared Splenda on the basis that it did not cause tooth decay, as did sugar. There were no long term studies on the effects of Splenda on the human body. I get the chills everytime someone at work (I own a restaraunt) asks me why I don't carry Splenda... Do a google search on the side effects of Splenda. Also, www.truthaboutsplenda.com or www.thetruthaboutsplenda.com. After what I went through, I wouldn't give it to my worst enemy. I have medical proof and documentation that Splenda was the cause of "Sweet Sickness" as I call it. And I've also joined a group of consumers online who are waiting for the FDA to recall the product, for a class action lawsuit. I'm working on a book as well. You make the choices for your life and your children, but if your asking for my opinion, give them some Stevia or last resort, pure cane, unrefined sugar.

| I have read and studied both sides of this issue logically I think facts and controled studies are important and the "truth about Splenda" is not actually the truth imho ..while you may have medical documentation of an issue with Splenda there were plenty of people who have medical documentation about a lot of things that are not pulled off the market... at the same time ...more than a serving or two per day of any sweetener is too much imho and I know full well people consume much more than that.....all sweeteners are chemicals ....and none are "good" for you or give you any advantage with your nutrition. But they do help some people avoid overeating by giving them something sweet once in a while ... as far as giving it to kids I would not advise anyone use artificial sweeteners during pregnancy or with kids ....they should only be eating things that are loaded with nutrition and taste good naturally .... but for adults trying to loose wt having sweeteners available can really help as a tool to loose weight ....if used in limited amounts. but this is only my opinion based on a lot of factual reading

| moon- you know what, do the safest thing possible and ask your pediatrician about giving your kids splenda. you will get opinionated, non-MD advice on this board (mine included), and that's just not appropriate for your question. renee |

| I have also wondered about giving splenda to kids. When I am thinking that if most of the time your children eat healthy foods(whole grains, fruits, veggies, meats, berries, nuts) and for an occasional treat you give them something made with splenda(or even sugar!) it will not do any harm(if your child is at a healthy weight). |

| this is opinion here and not medical advice that is for sure ..but I think it is a solid opinion that kids should not have foods in their diets that do not provide nutrition to grow
