Default This question may sound silly but...

if you keep falling off the wagon, could this mean that Atkins is not for you?! Besides having PCOS, I have depression and I'm quite moody, thus the sudden food-attacks (i know its bad, but my mood swings get so bad that I grab whats closest to me)..

I know it dosen't make sense when you are a true believer in Atkins (worked the first time and I was 10lbs close to goal), I do want to lose the weight, but can't seep to get things to work. I'm keeping my home junk-free, but its kinda hard when you are the only one on Atkins

does anyone have any advice? hints? anything

Well honey I dont think "falling off" means Atkins is not for you ...there is a reason you do and it is worth looking at for sure ...

I am a very moody person as well ..have always been ...my moodiness is not clinical (although some may think it is) and I actually think I found great relief (although am still moody) from eating a diet that not only helped me loose wt but it helps keep my blood sugar very stable ....

this is all a learning process ..take your time and go slowly...

hopefully this time for you will stick

keep a large variety of good healthy food in the house and find diversions ...

drink you water and move your body...good luck

Hey Ms World, I would absolutely agree with Heidi, I too was moody and eating this way has stablized my bloodsugar, my moods, my energy levels...I find I am a far more stable individual...you can ask my immediate family and they will alllllll tell you how stable I've become!
Keep working this plan, it takes time for it to click, it takes daily focus and effort, but this is one plan where the sugars are so removed, you actually will get in a good calm, stable place...It's worth the hard consistent work of getting there...It is worth it!!!

ms world-

i also have PCOS and i know all about the ups and downs with mood. since starting atkins on 1/2/07, my mood has really stabilized, along with my blood surgar (the whole point of the diet). listen, stick with it and you will see results in your weight, mood, skin, nails, etc. also since starting, TOM is regular and i have been ovulating! the benefits of this diet are realy amazing! try to hang in - once you get a week cheatfree under your belt, it gets easier. really! good luck!

-renee

ps - every time i see your name pop up (ms. world) i think of that screechy courtney love song - lol!

I'll do my best to stay cheat-free.. thanks guys for taking the time to reply to this, you've encouraged me a great deal

Lulubell (Renee),
what meds are you on? and do you feel that they affect your weight loss process? I find being on a BCP makes me gain weight (aside from the water retention).. felt any change? when I Atkins the first time I stopped taking my meds without consulting my doctor, and the weight was falling off untill I had to go see him because I had some other problems and did some tests and had to get back on the meds and thus, the weight gain!

omg! why would you remember that cheesy song! LOL ^_^

well, i take metformin and clomid, because i'm tryingto get pregnant. definitely not BCPs. if i weren't trying to get pg, i would drop the metformin, since it's not needed when you don't eat carbs. but, there is some evidence that suggests met helps the ovary follicles grow and then release the eggs after about 12mm, so, i continue to take it.

other than that, i take a daily dose of synthroid for hypothyroidism, a prenatal vitamin, and some supplements (chromium, fish oil, l-carnitine). i don't think any of those affect my weight. if anything, taking met helps alot of people shed a few pounds. you know that fish oil is good for PCOS, right?

back in the day, i actually liked courtney love

Fish oil is good for lots of things! Make sure to get a high quality one - liquid is best, but can be kinda hard to swallow
My chiropractor says that fish oil is antiinflammatory, too.

I don't know if this helps, because I'm new, but I have always had trouble with mood swings and as soon as I really dedicated myself to this and took it one day at a time they just vanished. Also, don't have really high expectations and make sure and plan plenty of snacks, just ridding your house of the junk food will only cause you to feel deprived unless you fill up your cupboards with good Atkins food in its place.

Eat when you want and eat lots of fat and protein so you don't feel deprived. Every time I feel deprived, I tell myself to "eat something!" and then I feel better. For some reason, doing that on a typical low-fat diet meant that I would grab whatever was closest or cheapest but now that I plan to have lots of good choices around me, I feel satisfied. And I also realize that I have always failed before, but for 8 days now I have not cheated and I am going to hang on to that instead of looking at the failures.

I have to add in here that I suffer from Disthymic Disorder, which is, in a nutshell, a mild form of depression. The problem is that whereas traditional depressive disorders tend to go in cycles, I tend to maintain that outlook all the time. It's not a terrible situation, as it just generally makes me very pessimistic, which is actually good for my job.

Now, onto the Atkins lifestyle part of this...since I obviously can't answer anything about PCOS! Part of my problems are that both my doctors (and myself when I get "off the wagon") have a hard time distinguishing sugar level surges and the crankiness that occurs when my sugar is lower, and it's easily confused for some sort of depressive behavior. I suppose what I'm saying is that for me, Atkins has made (and continues to make) the symptoms of my depression much less difficult to deal with...that in itself is worth skipping out on peanut butter cookies!

Ty.
