| Once you hit the dairy rung of OWL, you can indeed add milk and milk products back in if they do not affect you negatively.

| Tired is right. It depends what phase of the Atkins Diet your friend is in. The Induction Phase is very strict and only allows dairy in the form of butter, heavy cream and cheese. But the later weight loss phases allow you to have higher carb foods like milk, wheat products, potatoes, apples, etc.

| some of us opt to drink the low carb version, Hoods brand milk. they have a great tasting chocolate flavor. it's a bit pricey but for me, who is not much of a milk drinker, it works out fine. add it at the when megs and toc said.

| You can drink real whole milk---again you can try it out when you get to OWL Phase. 8 oz real milk has about 12 carbs, so 1/2 cup is about the typical OWL 5 net carb amount. Granted you won't be able to wash down a bag of Oreo cookies with 1/2 cup of milk, but since we don't eat Oreos on Atkins, who cares? However, that 1/2 cup milk during OWL can be used as an ingredient for other foods/beverages. The other thing about the low carb fake milk is that it contains Splenda, so each serving needs to be counted as one of the 3 daily sweeteners (that limit never changes through the Atkins phases.)

| Sometimes I have plain, unsweetened soy milk at just 5 total carbs per cup - but never whole milk. At around 11 total carbs per cup, it's not a bad "deal," but I just prefer to cut corners when and where I can.

| I'm with Sally! I put about 2 tbsp of heavy cream in a glass and fill it with cold water. A bit of a stir, and you've got yourself milk! Stacy
