Default TMJ & Low Carb "foods" making me gain

I was doing sooo good and was getting closer to my next mini goal then I hurt myself eating some tough cube steak.

I toughed it out for a few days and was in such pain that I called my dentist and he saw me on tuesday. He took x-rays and so he figured I sprained my tmj joint and some legiments under my teeth and needed to be on a soft diet for a week or so.

I am trying to eat soft foods but any chewing at all give me terriable shooting pains in my teeth. Oh...and I have been on either tylenon or ibupropen every 4 hours for over a week now.

Anyway. since I could not eat my regular pork chops and chicken (I have chopped chicken real small and tried to eat) I was eating boiled eggs (even the whites hurt to eat). I could not stand another boiled egg so I got some atkins shakes and had 1 in the afternoon on 2 days. That caused about a pound and a half gain...then I was upset and figured that was a bad idea but needed something soft to eat so I found some peter pan low carb peanut spread AND pemento spread. the peminto spread is hard to eat from chips of cheese and I got sick of it anyway but I guess the low carb peanut spread was a bad idea because I gained more today.

After this finally heals up and I can chew again I will have to redo induction I guess, but in the mean time I am trying as hard as I can to stay on plan.

I had scrambeled eggs this morning with a can of ham and was able to eat that wihtout chewing and I guess I will try to eat some salmon and mash up some green beans when we go out for supper.

I have been unhappy about the pain but my husband is sick of me whining and complaining about the weight gain. He says he has problems too and I told him that he does not have to worry about his weight so he really does not have any real problems....This is so frusterating.

Everytime I take step forward something happens to cause a snag.

I am sorry you are in so much discomfort. I have TMJ and know how painful it can be.

This is going to sound gross but it has worked for me on several occassions (after maxiofacial surgery): make your chicken breast (as you like) and then puree in the blender. It doesn't get any softer than liquid. It helps if the chicken is seasoned well and very juicy (otherwise you will have to add water.)

Good Luck-
Ana

Induction veggies: All of them (including lettuce) can be cooked, pureed and eaten as a soup.

Meat: Simmer until very soft and puree. Add to the soups if need be.

Cheese: eat the softer cheeses, like brie or cream cheese.

Eggs: you can make a savory custard: boil a 1/2 cup water, and let it cool. Beat 2 eggs, mix in the water and add your vegetable or meat puree and some cheese. Bake in the oven until the custard is set. The water must be boiled, because you want to remove as much air from it as possible---if it's not boiled the custard will have air bubbles.

I agree about blending the chicken. I run my cooked chicken through my processor and then make chicken salad out of it. You may be able to eat tuna, too. And I wouldn't worry about the weight gain too much. Those shakes probably have all kinds of things that could cause water gain.
