| I don't normally watch Dr. Phil, but did see this today. I thought it was interesting what she eats in a day ' I eat alot, mostly carbs, I because can't afford fruits and vegetables'. I don't buy that exuse one bit. I would have thought what her daughter is being put through because of her weight would be enough inspiration to get her to at least try to lose weight. IMO she didn't seem to care about her condition.

| Jen, That too is exactly the same feeling... her daughter is really the looser and Cindy doesn't seem to care about her much. Deep down, I hope she Cindy does not mean that though.

| I watched this program also. I hope that Cindy does lose weight and changes the way she treats her daughter. I felt so sorry for her daughter, not only is Cindy ruining her own life due to her obesity, but she is ruining her daughter's life as well.

| I did not see this program, but I really want to warn you against sitting in judgment about someone's eating habits and ability or inability to be on a diet. This woman weighs a huge amount...we have no idea how she got there, and how discouraging it can be at that weight. Odosan, with all due respect, you haven't even been on Atkins a year and have never been at that weight. I've seen soooo many people come through here with a preachy attitude about how they just can't understand why others don't "see the light"...only to regain their own weight one, two, or five years later. There's usually a "high" when you start this thing but the idea of changing habits for the rest of your life is very difficult. Also, I remember when I started (and I was never as heavy as that woman)...I took off 30 pounds and still no one noticed, while I had a friend that lost eight pounds and everyone was giving her compliments. I can only imagine how it would be to weigh 500 pounds, drop 100 pounds, and still have no one notice. She may need surgery to help with willpower or even with overall appetite...as people who are that obese may have something different about them physically that makes it that much harder for them. Anyway, bottom line is: Don't judge. I know we all know what it's liked to be judged for being on this WOE! Sharon |

| She stated that she was content where she is..and if she was to weight 500 lbs then so be it. We are not judging, but going by the facts of what she said. As far as her daughter, she was criminally charged by child services and had to daughter taken away for a time, for the way she was treating her daugher (who at 15 has to empty her mothers 'bathroom bucket' several times a day and cater to her every whim as she snaps her fingers telling her to do things). The chances that she does not seem to care about her weight, and went on dr. Phil and said htis, IMO does give us reason to judge her. Though I do agree with what you have said, in tins case I disagree. Just my 2 cents.

| Yes, this was a program you'd have to see in order to get the whole picture. Nobody is attacking Cindy for being overweight, Especially me. I was well on my way to being the weight she is....however, her daughter's life is very depressing. I only hope that she accepts the help that was offered to her and is able to care for herself soon so that her daughter can have a real mom and life of her own. It was a very depressing situation.

| Well I understand that I didn't see the show...but the first line of the OP's post was as follows: "Cindy on Dr. Phil today was at 500 lbs and feeling miserable. She wants gastrict bypass surgery to bring her weight down." So as I read the post, it appeared that Cindy did indeed want to lose weight through gastric bypass, and she was being criticized for not doing Atkins instead. Sorry if I got it wrong, but I was reacting to the OPs post about the weight loss only. The OP didn't talk about anything else but that. Sharon |

| When I saw her on there....I got the hint that she doesnt care what happens. Everytime Dr. Phil asked her a question she came back to "well its better than where I was before...." which is fine if thats the truth but she had an excuse for everything. So IMHO, just like Dr. Phil said - its not going to happen unless the person really wants it to happen. And I honestly dont feel like she wants to - she pretended to be content with herself and says her friends say she is too happy..well thats also fine. But look what she is putting her daughter through (her own slave) anyone who is happy would never do that to another human being, let alone her own daughter. just my opinion.
