Sorry I cant be of any help at all. I have been low carbing for over 3 years now and have never heard of a calorie v carb thing. I doubt its measureable if I am honest.

Hey, I don't know if this is accurate at all bu tI did a google search for "How many calories to burn carb" and the first site that came up says:

Protein contains 4 calories per gram
Carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram
Fat contains 9 calories per gram

*edit*

Found a second site http://diet.ivillage.com/plans/plowcal/0,,gdf,00.html
which gives the same information. Would prefer one of the sites to be some kind of primary source but at least with 2 saying the same thing it gives a bit more confidence in the answer.

You'll be burning a mixture of fat, carbs and protein during all exercise. How much of each depends on what exercise and at what intensity.

Carbs and protein each contain just under 4 calories per gram, and fat contains about 9 calroies per gram, and that's what they provide us with when we consume them, but it's not as simple as that when it comes to burning them off in exercise.

Hi

If I understand your question correctly, I think that part of the problem in figuring it our is that carbs are calories just like protein and fat. So you cannot substitute carbs for calories.

But I think that your body will prefer burning carbs, so if you take in too many carbs it will stay on carb burning mode and not burn fat. By lowering the carbs you force the body to switch to fat burning mode.

But I may be misunderstanding your question

Exactly. That's why I don't think it's possible to assess how many carb calories you burn with any carb-calorie burning machines, etc.

However, on Atkins you know how many carb grams you eat daily, so you can figure out how many calories you get from carbs. But I still think it's nonsense because duringthe weight loss phases Atkins your goal is to burn excess body fat grams/calories, not the calories from the carbs you eat. If the typical OWL phase Atkineer can eat between 15-40 net carbs daily, then that's only 60 to 160 calories coming from their carb intake. According to the book, 150 calories can be used up raking leaves for 30 minutes or shovelling snow for 15 minutes. In other words, it's a piddly amount.
