| did you put the amounts from your bacon label into fit day as a custom food or did you rely on what fitday provided? if you did the custom food, it would be more accuarat in this case.

The best thing to do is just read the nutritional facts on the package. It will show the the calories per serving. The bacon I have now is thick sliced, it is two slices per serving and the calories are 70 and 45 from fat.

Please, if you are losing weight nicely, and ketone test strips show a lot of fat burning, don't wear yourself out worrying about calories. Calorie counting should be like a one-time thing, just to make sure you're not doing something stupid, (as I tend to do) or in case you hit a brick wall. I call this 'coarse adjustment'. You can lose weight while taking in a lot of calories, and 2000 a day may not be too much. I lost weight at 2500 calories a day, partly because he says don't count calories. That was a mistake, and therefore I think one should, once per phase, make sure you are in the ball park. Part of the reason I hate calorie counting is the AMA approved "guaranteed to make you gain weight 95% of the time" diet is all about calories.

Firstly thanks for the responses. In australia our bacon comes fresh in the deli section without packaging. You can buy it prepacked but most people buy it fresh as it tastes better and is fresher.I have looked up my calorie book and they say bacon is around 200-300 per slice... Anyway i am going to take the advise of not worrying about calories. It really has made me feel like the old mentality of calories, where you start getting anxious if you get higher during the day.I love the fact that on atkins you just keep to the food groups you are allowed.Eat when you are hungry and not worry about calories. Thanks jacqui

You should be fine. However, you might want to limit that bacon to a few times a week. Try a quiche, or an omelet with veggies/cheese instead. I only do bacon 1 week, or use it in cooking, or crumbles for salad. It's a great form of seasoning too. I don't know, it's just me, I still haven't been able to sell myself that eating bacon all the time is good for me. But it sounds like everybody says, that you've doubled or tripled the calories. I use Fitday and it's always been around 200 - 300 calories depending on the thickness. Good Luck, nice post!

Hi,Thanks for the replys.I think i have worked out why we have such differences in the calories for bacon.Bacon rashers are around 200-300 per slice, however i noticed breakfast bacon in the store today and its much lower. So maybe thats where the difference comes in.Breakfast bacon is basically all meat and no fat and looks like a long piece of ham, where as regular bacon has the fat through it. jacqui

American bacon is REALLY thin. Our bacon in Belgium is MUCH thicker and it does have a ton of calories. Mumm, bacon!
