| A couple of things... 1. Where are they getting their information about Atkins? 2. Have they read the book and other materials about low carb diets?

| Of course not. They are nurses - one a dialysis nurse. The dialysis nurse says she's 'held the hand of people who have to have dialysis for life because they did the Atkins diet'... Then I get jumped on for calling them on spreading lies and misinformation and they ask ME for studies and clinical information! Are they providing it for their side? No. Just anecdotal stuff.

| Don't put yourself through that aggrevation. They just want to argue with you. I don't think you can reason with them or make them see the light. |

| I'd ignore them. If they don't bother to read/educate themselves about the diet, then their opinion is rather baseless. If they want "studies" then refer them to the New England Journal of Medicine, June 2004 (I think) there were 2 studies specificially about the Atkins diet. As for the people needing dialysis due to "Atkins"----I wonder if they really did follow Atkins or if they followed "Atkins".

| I know. I know I can't change their minds. I need to come up with a list of quick replies that I can put out there for these occasions. Part of the problem today is that I haven't seen this level of misinformation and ignorance in a while. I've been doing Induction this time for two months now (low-carb for 7+ years off and on) and this is the first serious negative discussion I've had about it.

| I understand your frustration. The fact is that Atkins has a bad rap due to people who never read the diet and by people who do "Atkins", then blame the diet for their "Atkins" results.

| My response is to people who are negative about Atkins is; I feel better than I ever have. My skin is better, my hair is thicker and healthier, I have much more energy than I used to and my mind is clearer. I also don't eat any processed foods and I eat a lot of vegetables. So tell me, what is it exactly that is so unhealthy about my lifestyle?
